Recording audio tracks using the mpc?

Does anyone know if akai is working on a update that will allow the mpc to be used like a digital recorder, similar to the mv8000? I mean the mv8000 as well as some keyboard workstations uses ram to record and store audio tracks, and they all have the same amount of ram as the mpc. Maybe I'm a little nieve but if akai gives us, streaming audio from the hard drive in a future update like they said, then the mpc would be able to do just about the same as a digital recorder. Please respond with your thoughts.

well wasn't that what akai intended with the "start sampling via midi note trigger" with os1.5 ... haven't looked into it but I belive it's a workaround..

u cant as of yet .the midi trigger is for statring sampling using a seperate midi device

I got a AKAI DPS24 recorder sync'ed with mine 4K but I tried the "start sampling via midi note trigger" with os1.51 to see how it worked 4 basic audio phrases. Ya can trigger sample recordin' with a midi note on a selected channel. What I did is create an empty drum program with all pads zone 1 set to ONE SHOT and put it in the multi on midi channel 16B, set a seq track out INT-B channel 16, insert a midi note (Pad1) where I wanna record audio. In Record I selected Midi Note on ch 16B, arm sampling and play the sequence. The 4K started recordin' when the inserted midi note played, and at the end of recordin' I selected ADD PGM and hit Pad 1. I played back the seq and yeah, the "audio" played in sync with the seq!
I tried the same thing but without insertin' the midi note in advance, just put the seq in record (TC OFF!!!) with the 4K Record "waiting for midi note" and hit a pad to start recordin' a sample and record the midi note at the same time on-the-fly. Worked the same.
So it works but I wouldn't track a lot like dat. Now I bet AKAI's gonna work on it to make it like "integrated samplin'" with some kinda automatic thang.
Sure, it ain't gonna compete with mine DPS24 for trackin' but what's cool is there's no audio tracks limit (polyphony up to 64), it's 24bit, and ya can use the filters, envelopes, LFOs to modulate the "audio" like other samples. Somethin' to play with!

Ya doctor def nailed it, I have layed some audio down by just grabbing my mic and hitting play then hitting record and just bullshitting

ive been looking into to this as well cause its got some good creative tings going on...
i would want to use so i could scratch a beat on my 1210s for say,2 0r 4 bars and have that looping , then move onto say a bass tone the loop that as well , some dope vox snippets Etc, so u can build up some beats on the fly by just cutting up some snares ,kicks,hats freestyle on yer decks.

thanks i was trying to figure a way use source from master option. now i can tell my people that the 4k is capable of vocal recording
