I just got the 1000 and when I tried to load a .SEQ file from my 4000, I got a error message on the 1000: "WRONG FILE!!!"

Do any of you use the 1000 with your MPC 4000? Have you been able to load 4K .SEQ files onto your 1000?

thats unlikely as the 4000 was made before the 1000 similarly you can't load 1000 SEQ's into an MPC60 etc...

You might be able to load sounds between the 2 if they are saved in .WAV format...

I can load the samples from the 4K to the 1K, no problem

But i cannot load SEQ done in the 4000 onto the 1000, even though it says in the 1000 manual that they are compatible.

That is plain nuts. Its just a MIDI file, any sequencer should be able to open it!

Nah, the average man might have a good point there.
Same thing I've been thinking all along. Just because they are all MPC's doesn't mean every file can be swapped between them. Some people seem to have problems understanding that, accepting it, then moving on.

1st off, let's make sure you are using Akia 1000 OS or JJ 1000 OS?

2nd off. If Akai has stated (i know they've lied in past 4000 users) that the 4k Midi Files work with the 1k, then what does Akai say? Any of the 1000 users talked to Akai about this, since their manual and specs state that it does.

and then 3rd. I agree with McSmooth and not Average Whiteguy and Lapdog.

Look at the 1000 specs:
http://www.akaipro.com/prodMPC1000.php

Under "Key Features":
Standard WAV files samples and MIDI Files sequences

AND under the 4000 "Key Features":

http://www.akaipro.com/prodMPC4000.php

WAV file support, and MIDI File Type 0 and 1 support

********************

Now what type of "Standard" midi file can't you trade around? I can take a 4k sequence and put it into Cubase or Logic, why not into their OWN product, especially when they say it will work? Akai's obviously messed something up in one of the newer versions of their OS. I personally would approach them like this is a bug, since it is.

And you feel you gotta call names? Wow.
You voted for me didn't you?

Just because they are all MPC's doesn't mean every file can be swapped between them. All midi heads know .MID is universal, that's nothing new.

Just because they are all MPC's doesn't mean every file can be swapped between them, them meaning mpc's which we were speaking of, not cubase, logic.

especially when they say it will work?
That's their fault then, not mine, if it doesn't work, figure out something else and move on.

Sure.

Hey Lamp... I think you took my post wrong... I wasn't intenting to call names, I was mainly trying to keep a conversation where if somebody says something, you reference it. Got to love forums .. I wasn't trying to do anything other then saying that Lamp said this and I didn't agree with it...
(and of coures, I ended up misunderstanding what you were saying anyways)

And I agree. I don't think that ALL files should be swapable between MPC's.
just the ones that Akai says they are, or if Akai says that the MPC saves in Midi Standard FOrmat 1 or 2 depending on how you select them, and the MPC1000 says that it loads standard midi files, then one would think that it would work. Since the Midi Standard format is outside of Akai...

I wasn't trying to say that the 1000 would load up 4000 Keygroup programs, or Multi's, just that it should be loading up the sequences that the 4000 makes....

Cheers and No hard feelings,

Dave

1)
How do you create a .seq file. All of my 4000 sequences are saved a .mid file....

2)
On the 4000, what you are specifying in the Save Sequence field. Midi Standard 0 or Midi Standard 1?

3) Do you get the same error with saveing Midi Standard 0 and Midi Standard 1 when loading into the 1000?

Thanks,
Dave

I think .seq is the new file extention the 1000 and 2500 uses. Does make me wonder if that means it is no longer a true midi file within the specs like the previous MPCs. If so, that would suck if you couldn't swap between MIDI software like renegade was talking about (very usefull feature). Regardless, the newer machines should be able to load the older files... and I'd expect going the other way to have problems.

Maybe that is another reason why they call them MUSIC Production Centers now instead of MIDI Production Centers.

I getting kind of old....but if memory serves me correctly, the older MPCs have several methods of saving sequence files...you can choose SEQ (MPC format) or MIDI 0 or 1.

MIDI standard 0 or 1 sequence files should/can be loaded, saved, exchanged between most MIDI sequencers. So an MPC 4000 MIDI 0 or 1 sequence file should be able to load in the 1000. Now the SEQ file as well as the MPC SND file is MPC specific. These may or may not work between MPCs.

This is correct and a very good observation Jah peep the knowledge drop to all. 8)

So now we have the REAL question...

How is this users trying to load 4000 .seq files in to the 1000, when the 4000 doesn't even make .seq files?????????
