Anyone take theirs on the road laptop-style (plugging it in to the cig lighter)? I don't have one yet so I'm wondering if it would be practical or even possible due to power limitations?

Its called a power inverter. One end plugs into the cig lighter, and the device has a power plug on it for whatever. You can find them all over these days and its totally worth it. Pretty much any model will probably power an MPC. Get a higher wattage if you plan to power other more power hungry devices.

I've done this on many roadtrips :D Just keep in mind that if they turn the car off, you lose everything... so save often. I also used to set up turntables and a mixer out of the back of my car and just run the sound through the car stereo. Good times.

i always thought i could replace my horn with some samples. My steerng whell had a button on each side and i often thought it wuld be mad to replace these with a kick and snare, so i can tap out drums on long drives.

My friends went one better than me and installed an su200 sampler on his dash board and wired it to an all weather hrn speaker which was mounted under his bonnet. He had all sorts of crazy sounds on it to fool people when out on the road, he had the sound of a jumbo jet taking off that played very loud, police sirens, sexual moans, animals noises, just all manner of random and weird shiz was hilarious to see peoples faces at the traffic lights, expecially dragging people in hotted up and cars and they hear the sounds of a jet engine revvng up.

on a side note, i have seen power inverters that are the size of a coke can, and they sit snuggly into your cup holder. these would be great, but i think a 1000 or 500 would be more practical for car use, unless u got a hummer.

I have one of these

I've powered my MPC and a zip while driving in a car. I've heard its sketchy to use with external Hard Drives with your laptop because power surges or power loss can corrupt your data, but other than that the technology works great.
