Yea, that sux. I don't see why it would work for me and not you...

are you using mpc as master or slave?

I created the "Ultimate Sync Thread" a few months ago. I tested the MPC 2500 using both the Akai and JJ OS and also did a test with the MPC 3000. The results may suprise you.....

The problem with the SYNC is that it has issues no matter how you look at it.
The problem that most complained about but others could never understand was that using the 2500 with PT's MIDI BEAT CLOCK cause problems.
It shifts the drum hits forward in time and it shifts them more and more as you continue to play.
You end up with drum tracks that sound as if they have been re-quantized.
If you look at the same audio recorded with the same settings using MTC and then MIDI BEAT CLOCK you can see how the MIDI BEAT CLOCK audio is sliding forward.
Basically forcing the use of MTC with PT and the 2500 if you want your drums to sound the way you recorded them.
Here's a screen shot of the drifting audio, the longer the file the more it drifts.

Slave

When giving all these examples, it's beat to give all the details. These posts doesn't not clearly explain whether the MPC is used as a master or slave.

Anyway...I beat this until it was a dead horse:

That's the problem I had after 1.1 when using midi beat clock with Logic 7. MTC is the way to go. I can't understand why they don't fix it, can't be that difficult. Does midi beat clock work a la 1.1 under JJ OS?

from the little test i did, yes it does.

How accurate is your syncronization when using Logic Pro 7 (7.2.3) via MTC with a MPC2500? I'm using the JJ OS and I still can't get my tracks to align perfectly. When I say perfecty I'm meaning "sample accurate".

Back in the day I used ADAT's. I could transfer tracks back and forth with sample accuracy. These days I can't even track my MPC into logic without having to slide tracks back and forth so that they align correctly.

Obviously, I deal with it, but it just seems like with all of this great technology, tracking should not be such a pain.

Note - I'm using the Logic Pro MTC settings found here on mpc-forums.

anyone notice how now you only get 56 seconds of stereo sample time as opposed to a little over a min with 1.22?

or is it just me???

56 seconds? Haven't you upgraded your memory yet?

I use the same settings (for MTC) and have never been convinced it's perfect. That said, I don't really have my head round latency and the part that plays (if it does when tracking in from the MPC to Logic) but when tracking I have latency set at 32ms.

To be honest I tend to use the MPC more as a sketch pad for ideas with software instruments than for audio since the sampling side is very disappointing (timestretch is a waste of time IMO). Phatmatik Pro cost me £80 or something is is 10x better in that respect.

Its definately not perfect. I guess I should'nt stress about it if the actual misalignment is not audible. The problem is, after tracking all night by yourself, sometimes slight timing variations can slip buy.

Latency and track misalignment are two different things.

Latency can be delt with effectively in Logics preferences and your sound cards preferences. I use a MOTU 2408MKIII. MOTU has near zero latency monitoring via its built in Cuemix software.

Track misalignment is a whole other story. I conducted tests that I received from Gearslutz.com that will determine your audio cards track misalignment. Once determined, you offset the alignment by entering a numerical value in Logic's "Record Delay" setting. After that you still have to deal with the timing inaccuracy with Logic and the MPC. At this point I don't know what to do. For example, try tracking a 16th note hi hat from your MPC into Logic. Do this 3 or four different times. Now open the audio files with Logics audio editor and set view to "Samples". As you can see the hi hat is not recorded with sample accuracy and each file has a different starting point. Sometimes its early, sometimes it late.
Because the track misalignment is variable, you cannot really do anything that will compensate for it. That is whats frustrating to me.

So for now I just manually slide the tracks to the correct starting point. Its a pain, but I don't want to lose that MPC feel. Besides, programming drums with the MPC is more intuitive and much faster than messing arounnd with Logic, Ultrabeat, etc.

Jahrome, I came up on the sp202/303 samplers..i've been used to 30 seconds for so long, thats about all I need...but soon I will. Its not like I don't have the money to or anything.

That's cool, I am just suprised. There are alot of places that are throwing in th extra memory for free these days and Akai has been offering free memory or free CD drives periodicallly...
