hate to do it

im thinkin about droppin one of my mpcs or maybe both of them. Im gettin a G4 computer. I want to go to the computer for producin a while, i guess. Im most likely gonna go with reason/protools. Does anybody think this is a good idea??? i might just keep my 2000 and sell my 1000. I know im gonna get the answers "why would you want to do that", "your stupid for that", "mpc is real shit". Because i was on that end at once tellin people that. I know the mpc is the greatest thing to all of you.

I would keep one MPC, you can always sell it later. I have just got hip to Reason. Yo it is hard. It got mad potetial. I have been testing it out with the 2Kxl. The PC version of reason dose not have a pre roll that I know of. You can work around that. I freaked the swiss out those effects. I never was all that comforatable with Pro Tools. By the time I could afford it (PT) I got use to something else.

Thats funny what got me to the MPC was Reason...I started on hardware (Roland MS1 and YamahaMT8, there was no software in 96), quit for 3 years (nothing to do with music), got a comp in 2000, my cousin brought over a copy of Reason, i was like **** this gay sh!t after doing a couple of cool beats and copped my first MPC (MPC60) after getting a SP808 (which I thought was a cheap alteranative to an MPC - but was really a unituitive piece o' sh!t).

before i had my 2000xl, i had a Motif 8, and was workin wit it, then tryed 2 mess wit reason.... it was okay, but the beats never came out as well or in as much time as it did on my Motif... later i got my MPC, and i promised maself i'd never go back 2 reason, even though now i'm thinkin bout doin the whole Motif 8, 2000xl, Reason setup... who knows

When the 1k first dropped 247beatz u was in LOVE what happened to that feelin about the 1k homie?

The other half of my production team is a Reason freak now. It used to be I'd get there and he'd say "check this out" and hit a button on the Triton. Now everytime I walk in he says the same thing but instead of the Triton he opens up Reason and just blows me away with what he can do with that program. I've produced a couple of tracks on Reason but it's just not for me. What's funny though is that he can't do shit with the MPC. I'd say keep an MPC and mess with Reason for a while, if it can do everything you need it to do then sell your other MPC, if not then you're not kickin' yourself for gettin' rid of your MPC too soon.

Exactly!!! I have three main production partners all doing different sh!t, my one homie in LA sits on a Motif and a 2000XL all day, but does everything on Reason??? WTF, its cool, sounds mad commercial and marketable, but theres something in me that labels him a busta azz producer, im just not down with it, I am down wit the computer for mastering and recording but not creating...it just dont feel right.

i dont know. I guess after i worked on about 10 songs wit my boy, i just kinda fell away from it. i dont think i went close to my studio at all for almost 2 months. And if i did, it was a quick beat just to show someone who wanted to hear. I mean, i think its gettin to me that i cant be better than i am. Any beat i ever make anymore sounds to like dark. Its like a horror movie type beat. I just said f"ck it.

i hate sampling, thats part of the reason why i want to get rid of the mpcs. I just wanna have a soundbank and just go from there. The only beat that i ever actually liked was on http://www.soundclick.com/bands/3/247beatzmusic.htm and everyone told me it sucked.

Dude if your serious about making beats and your going to stick with it, you're going to kick yourself for getting rid of the MPC. Maybe try something new, but don't get rid of the MPC's. Trying something new might give you the chance to do a couple things: One is to grow musically, another is to get refreshed and recharged. Maybe your bored. Maybe just try making tracks without the MPC's put em away in storage for a while and see how it goes. Get em out the lab!

If your getting a G4 there's no real reason why you should have 2 MPC's though! I think getting rid of one and putting the dough toward something else would be a good idea. I would probably keep the 1k though because it's easy to use with a PC right?! If your thinking of going PC the 1000 is a good companion piece.

And yo, I listened to your beat...it wasn't bad! To tell you the truth it sounded like what you had was a nice hook. It wasn't terrible! It just needed more work it seemed like just a rough sketch. If you put more elbow grease in there it would be better. It's just more effort!

Yo Lab, do you! If you don't like sampling....then don't sample! You don't have to sample to make a dope track. And you don't have to sample music to be inspired by it, and build another track from that inspiration. If your shit sounds like horror movie shit and you like it...**** it! I like some shit like that too, so do a lot of other people. Keep going playa! Find something that turns you on again...keep growing...but don't give up........

I work alot with software including reason. In fact that is how I started out making beats a few years ago. I just got an mpc cuz I was felling the need to try making beats on hardware. There's definatly cool things to both the hardware and software thing. There's also drawbacks.
With Hardware you never have to worry about latency. It makes you rely more on your ears than your eyes. There aren't usually as many crashes. On the MPC of course you have the 16 pads that everyone loves.
With software everything is right there, you don't have to worry about routing any of your devices through effects or other things. In reason they give you some cool samples and presets. Most people I know who still use reason alot, myself included, don't often use anything from the reason factory sounds. They are more of a tool for beginners. The problem is that every kid in the US has an illegal copy of reason on his pc, and they are all using the same 100 sounds.
I'd suggest that you keep which ever mpc you are feelin more and cop a computer with reason and try both. See which workflow works best for you.
Anymore I make loops in reason or on the mpc and then bring them into ableton live and do arrangements and editing there. You also might want to check out that program.
Just some quick thoughts...

Sell one mpc and keep one and add the software, best of both worlds. Don't abandon the mpc altogether or your buddies at this forum will abandon YOU (just joking...)

Thats funny. I like horror movie type beats (if I get what you are saying) and hated reason cause every beat I made on it sounded like the Knight Rider theme! Id prefer the former to the latter.

The Night Rider Theme is dope! Remember when Busta and Timbaland sampled it.....it was the shit!

I would keep one mpc until you have a chance to mess with just using the computer. After a few months of working with logic I'm now about ready to sell my 2000. But there are definite trade-offs, you have to really dig into it and see if it's for you.
