data jog wheel dead :(

my data jog wheel isn't working anymore, but the MPC is still useable and i use the arrows and + - buttons and to tell the truth isn't crying matter 4 me but i would like to fix it. How do you go around fixing it?

wow, the data wheel on your 2500 is dead? i haven't heard of that being an issue yet, as the 2500's wheel is pretty sturdy.

yeah that's odd but not too surprising.

unless the plastic data wheel is physically damaged, the data wheel has a defective rotary encoder.

to repair it, you need to de-solder it using a soldering iron and a de-soldering pump.

quickly and carefully heat the pins on the encoder, and quickly suck it up with the de-soldering pump.

the reason not to apply too much heat for too long is to avoid burning out the pads on the PCB. the pads are the small circular metal that make the connection to the circuit path and the encoder.

clean the area of any excess solder (if needed), then solder in a replacement encoder.

if you're not comfortable with the repair, have someone with soldering experience do it for you.

That's only the cap. I doubt it's that which doesn't work anymore.

mine is DEAD too.....was working intermittantly but now it's done...sux

solder a replacement in yourself. it's like 12 bucks from vst. couldn't be easier.

and when you desolder the first one, scan it next to a metric ruler. this way we can send the image to places like kensington and mouser to get a part match and order them for like 25 cents each.

i'm just wondering how long have you have your mpc before the wheel died. how hard were you spinning that piece?

yhea im starting to have that problem mines not dead yet but its slowly dying i have to turn it alot just to get it to move up one notch

same here!
data wheel is nearly dead. some "clicks" work some dont.
seems the replacement encoder is hard to get at the moment.
waiting for the repair shop to call me up, when they got the encoder
so i can send my mpc in. waiting for 2 months now.
couldnt find one on vstservice, too.

got my mpc for 1 and a half year now and used the data wheel in a "normal" way. no spinning contests or whatsoever.
