Alpha Chop...strictly for crate diggers...

It wouldn't be as precise though...I know from SP experience you'll be fine tuning the points anyway.

...fine tuning later would be either the same or quicker...

...but chopping and assigning to PGM per tapped pad is without a doubt far quicker than how we do it now.

for setting the start/end points of chops, it would be very very fast. you'd still have to go along and fix them manually. i've liked this idea for a long time. don't need it really but it certainly would be a good chopping method to implement along with standard methods.

good luck getting Akai to even read this.

i agree, i dont want to stray away from pure simplicity, I like to Chop the old fashion way..............................................

it seem that if we keep adding all this wierd auto crap, we are gonna loose the essence of the mpc..........still lovin the 2000xl even tho i got 2500, cause it was just more straight forward.

If you think what I'm describing is less str8 forward or less simple than how we do it now, I have a hard time believing that you read or understood it.

It's not that how we do it now is terrible...

...it's just that chopping this way would be so much more simple, natural, quicker, and rhythmic.

would be pretty dope, realtime chopping instead of "auto-chop"

each pad you hit gets assigned the exact chop point, then when you hit the next pad it gets that chop point and the previous pad ends at that same point

i've had this same idea (somewhat) for a few years now. the sp303/sp404 is the closest to it, but instead of having a start/end point button you would just tap pad 2 while holding a shift key and that would mark the end point of pad 1 and the start of 2, and so on. when you release the shift key the pads would play the sample normally. i'd cop that sampler in a heartbeat. id like it to be implemented in the next roland SP sampler

This sounds great and I would kill to see this implemented in ANY mpc, but what do you think the odds are of it ever happening?

As someone said before this seems pretty intangible since Akai wouldn't do this.

But I proposed they have each of the 16 pads, be tapped to both simultaneously slice and assign teach slice, with the first pad #1 triggering playback, and setting the first slice to pad #1. So there's something Machine can do better if NI chooses to add this feature, which I'm sure they will, as they were very quickly competitive with Akai's chord feature, on the Ableton Push.
