after several posts on here and talking to hiphoptools.com, i still have no answers on the "format is invalid" error i get whenever i try to format my new toshiba 100 gb mk1023gax hard drive with OS v.2.10 on my MPC 1000... i'm pretty surprised that no one has had any issues with installing their hard drives and that no one seems to know anything about how to troubleshoot this...

try sticking the jjos onto your machine and give the HD format a go then...pay the $30 and get the most recent one(its way better than the akai os anyway)..tell me how you get on with that

don't format it on your computer. As suggested above, try to format it with jj os... you can do that even if you haven't paid for it, so you'll see if it helps.

I was getting the 'format invalid' error message on a Samsung 160gb HM160HC drive too but managed to format it.

My MPC had the latest v2.13 OS installed from akaipro.com

First of all I installed the hard drive and the MPC1000 didn't even recognize the drive.
I removed it from the slot and then put it back in and then it showed up.

I then tried to format it but got the aforementioned error message.

I updated with the latest free jjos and tried to format it again with no luck.

Nearly ready to give up the ghost I again removed the drive and re seated it into the unit, tried the format and whalla!! It formatted and I now have 160gig of sample heaven working perfectly.

Might reinstall v2.13 if I find the free jjos limiting?!

Worked for me, hope it works for others too!! '''[(*_*)]'''
