Don't mean to be Captain Bringdown.

My thinking is this: If the CPU, which is reportedly designed for a cell phone, is only capable of addressing 1 meg of memory, and the traces on the circuit board are similarly set up for 1 meg, then increasing the memory would not work.

If I'm wrong, so much the better... I am just speculating with some technical knowledge behind it.

sounds very feasible and you may very well be right - but i'm no authority on this ether ... i'm gonna get a service manual and have a chat with an engineer friend of mine... at least we can know for sure then.
if i have any success i'll put a topic up about it ....

If i'm not mistaken, (which I very well maybe) but I thought that the flash memory was contained in the main chip (the same one which handles the processing). I can't remember the name of the chip itself, but I remember somone post up the specs of it... lemme search for a sec... hold on...

Ok, it's the rensas SH7727, and it looks like it is ROMless, so I guess the ROM is on another chip... my bad. Here's the link if you want to check it out:

Thanks this is great info - i'm making steps to obtain a service manual next. would be fantastic if the cpu could address more OS flash.
