How do u match both tempo and pitch....

I am new to the mpc 2000 classic (not the XL). I can't figure out how to change the pitch without changing the tempo (or vice versa). Anybody know how to do this correctly?

There's no function inside the 2000 which can do timestretching, you need to do it with a computer or just change the way you make beats, improve your ear and select samples which work well together. Try making the main part of your beat (drums and a bassline etc.) then searching for samps that fit.

Its hard to believe that the mpc 2000 doesnt have a pitch shifter. Even my crappy little korg es-1 has this feature.

k.... so what does the 'pitch bender' do? Is this something totally different?

the pitch bender is that little wheel, whammy bar type of deal on keyboards etc. that let you control/shift the pitch up and down while sustaining the note.
i think what holmes above is getting at, is the issues you encounter should you chop up a sample, maybe speed it up or slow it down to match your intended tempo, but end up with matching tempos but lower/higher tone/pitch between sample--i know audacity has a plugin to change time without affecting pitch, or change pitch while maintaining the same tempo, but i like to chop my al green shits, slow em down to 90 bpm, and put a sample patch into 16 levels from that.
that is what i have come to discover thus far in my quest to be sued by someone famous when i fail to clear sampled material.
