rofl! i'd completely forgotten that conversation! apologies! i wonder if the controller could be swapped over in that case? even worse than swapping smd LEDs i should think!!! lol

great question. so does anyone know of other places to get these screens? other brands or colors?

Well ya'll... I was blessed on this one. I started around 12:30am and finished around 4:30am. There are pix of just about everything but no video and I haven't had a chance to review them yet...

I must say, the bright & crispy new lcd is NICE.

Anyhoo, the most important advice I have to add is that if you are ordering the screen, BE SURE TO PURCHASE IT WITH THE RIBBON CORD ATTACHED. If you do this one thing, installation is now 5-10 minutes at best.

I started out trying to remove the ribbon cable from the controller board (will make more sense w/pix) by removing the old solder using a copper braid. I got pretty far but the black connector housing fell apart pretty quickly once I really started trying to pull it out of the 20 sockets. Sooo... After some turmoil and despair, boom! Ya boy ended up soldering the 20 strands of the ribbon cable directly to the 20 contacts on the new controller board. I do not recommend this to anyone and to be blatantly honest, I truly consider my successful install to be a blessing... Pix to come...

I bought one of those Korg padkontrols and have been wanting to really compare the two in the midi controller realm.

Here are the better of the shots... check it out.

Once the old solder is up to temperature, the copper braid absorbs it with ease but it's still challenging to get it all...



Here's an early image of the re-connect... after this was done, I used some tiny snip pliers to remove the excess wire.



This is closer to the end just before trimming.



A pic from the top side... this is where the OEM part connects with a nice black housing that should be a simple SNAP CONNECT!!!!!!



This is the magic shot... the mpc is upside down and I connected the cable to the main board (this one is a simple snap) so I could fire it up and test it... So happy as I took this photo....

Just playing with the old unit, I noticed that the glass panel will still fire up with current from your fingertips...



I still leave her running w/ 60GB... I have to protect the original until I dump, period.
