Is it me or is AKSys the shittiest ever attempt by akai to make the 4K controllable from a computer. It crashes non stop and the search fuction doesnt even search sub folders (no option for that). Crashes retardedly on my mac osx, just tried it on pc today for the first time and it works better but still its so primitive. I can even move files from one folder to the other in the mpc hard disk. Shitz wack.

I found it took several MPC4000 OS updates/hard drive reformats/USB driver updates/3 years for the Ak.Sys transfer process to actually work without crashing...

However now on an OS1.71-formatted drive with the latest Ak.Sys driver, I can transfer the whole hard drive without a crash. Pity it's super-slow USB 1.1 though...

Feline, I wish I could re-create your ak.sys environment. I tried reformatting my drive under 1.71, and I have a couple brand-new Intel-based Macs, which I think should certainly have up-to-date USB drivers, but I still have continual crashes when transferring samples with ak.sys. Very frustrating. Any suggestions?

I'm almost to the point of ripping the internal hard drive out of mine and using an external USB drive exclusively, so that I can back it up more easily.

yeah, I hate the fact that you can't move samples around in the folders or even move folders into other folders, but I deal with it, the program has never crashed on me even when backing up or loading my entire sample library, big files as well.

it is very basic as far as sample transfer, but I really enjoy the editing facilities it has for programs and keygroups.

this is my main method of getting samples into the 4k.

my aksis never crashed or failed transferin files...im on windows.

It probably also depends on the USB Host Controller on your motherboard chipset, and the chipset drivers for that.

Other tips:
- use a decent USB cable
- connect directly between MPC4000 and computer - don't use a hub

I was using a usb hub had no choice until i got the mac wireless kb (whick sucks). To think I praised the day when I wud no longer have to use jazz and zip drives. Noticed all folders listed under MPCHarddisk is not alphabetic, seems on my mac it was (not sure). Using Battery with it is amazing, but still not comfortable with battery interface. But I'm pretty sure u cant use Battery as the wave editor. That wud be the ill nana.......OH SHIT IT WORKED. Forgot Battery doesnt import, mpc .snd files well. Any one know why?

I`m going to guess but read battery`s manual and I willing to say it will state wav, aiff and etc import only. Snd is an mpc only file from the 60 to 3000 mpc. All other mpcs work will wavs.

I have a MPC 3K and I use MPCProgramMaker to covert wavs to snd data.

P.S. I work with a Mac G4 no problems get yourself a 10 port usb port and leave one opening on your mac dedicated only for Aksys. Like Feline and the others said keep it simple.

Its good to have it, just for easy transfering and renaming files..

Did all that. But its wacky on a MACky. With Battery u can open MPC .pgm files, as I've done many times and it has loaded numerous .snd files though some of them load improperly, seems like some thing to do with the sample rate the original sample rate. Cuz samples are all sped up.. Basically battery is an MPC Editor on steriods and u can wave edit for ak.sys as I've just learned. To tell u the truth some cats who I grew up on the MPC with put me onto Battery , with a simple AKAI MPD16-24, u pretty much can use it as an mpc with the sequenceing in Cubase. They've altogether gotten rid of their MPCs. I'm not that convinced and love my 4K. But it's a geat addition let me tell u, and the file tranfer between them works amazing. U can click on a sample in AK.sys and it will load it into battery as it wud do with ur wav editor, after editing the sample it asks u if u wud like to transfer the new modified version back to the mpc.

It never crashes on me, but it does feel a bit smoother on my OLD OLD OLD PC than on my G4.

I have version 1.71 and a computer built by sweetwater . I have not had the program crash on me at all. I load all of my songs up from the PC to the MPC via USB.
