the best part of this thread is that we all have a better understand of software and hardware in a studio. it is like beening gay and coming out of the closet. WE ALL USE HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE TOGETHER. WE ALL ARE TALKING ABOUT THE SAME THING BUT I GUESS I WAS TRYING TO MAKE SOFTWARE OUT TO BE THE BEST SH*T IN THE WORLD AND YOU GUY WERE DOING THE SAME WITH HARDWARE. as rodney king said "cant we just get alone"

Noyd wrote:the thing is,,i got an MPC since 2 years back,,i learned reason pretty good to,, I like the MPC more,, but i dont want to send files back and forth on the computer,,,i hate that,i want to have all in one place! im not the kind that works more than 2 hours on one beat. Gotta be effective!

Im not a beginner at this..
im scandinavian so my english isnt that good..i maybe wrote the whole thing confuzing and you missunderstood me,,but the main question is...

The Mpc (alone without software mixing or mastring)
VS Reason/fruity
Only talking about kvalite

Cause everybody tells me to interact the mpc with software and i wont do it,, so that combination is out of the question,,what would you do?
i make a beat on software just as fast as on the MPC

The problem is that people don't want to make their own decisions anymore, use both and choose one, and stay with it

What do you need our help for?

yeah man I really dont understand what you are trying to ask. Its the same thing. Its all gear at the end of the day. Nobody tells you what food you have to eat and what clothes to wear, its a matter of taste. I use both. Some use either or.

oh and

Yes you were trying to do that. and when people gave you opinions you got all hostile. Its all a matter of choice. Dont hate on people cause you are forcing people to agree with you and blowin up when they dont. I have no beef with you no more. You seemed to have calmed down. so its all good. Aint no one ****** with you so chill. We can all get along

But back to the original post. Honestly man whatever works for you. Its your music.

With both not really being good at mixing down, your going to have to feed both of them into a program like Cubase,PT, or Logic

So at the end of the day it doesn't matter, final mix is what counts

I started with Rebirth, fruity loops reason, now I am mainly hardware based with my computer as a glorified tape recorder with effects.

Enough said.

Reason does some weird postprocessing when you save your stuff. I read a paper on that like half a year ago, but I don't remember the url.

Why always something verses something else? Can't we just use them all together? I do.

Besides, it's not fair, they are both manufactured and made for very different purposes.

If it was the roland machine vs 4k then that's a fair fight to the death.

It was not as much people's opinions, than it was people's attitudes that were colliding...

But you have a good point there lamp.
After all, what would boys be good for if there were no girls?

The problem with threads like this is they assume to much.
I mean really, we all use computers to some extent, cause we wouldnt be on this forum if we didnt.
The producer who only uses hardware and no computers at all (the real technophobe the software supporters think they are arguing against) isnt going to log on to defend himself.
So it comes down to: is your personal studio wieghted to hardware or software? And the answer is...

totally irrelevent. Who cares?

Its like: yeah, I wuz gonna cop that new 9th wonder ish, but when I found out he uses fruity loops I decided not to. Fruity loops is wack so even though I liked his beats before I hate them now.

or: yeah, I thought madlib was the man untill I found out he used a sp-303. I cant listen to that kinda "unprofessional" music. Its bad for my soul.

Both viewpoints are stupid. So why is this thread gonna be four pages long? Cause people cant get over it and need to talk an unimportant topic to death instead of making music. I can see the cat sitting with reason going "hmmm... my set-up sounds stupid wack. maybe i'll go over to the mpc forum and make fun of the cats that own the hardware I wish I had."

Its like... "Im so into computers, man, that when I went into the studio I said 'no thank you, sir. I have my compressor and reverb in reason. Im not using any of your fancy 10,000 dollar processors, man. Im part of the future with my lil' lap top here thank you very much.'" Yeah right.

Remeber back when cats used to argue over EMU vs. Akai samplers?

That made a little more sense as you could actually compare them.
Lampdog made the same point here, and he's right. (By the way, good to hear your doing alright lamp).

What is the use of comparing a specific instrument (the mpc) with a vauge category ("software")?
Its not just like comparing apples and oranges, its like comparing apples (the mpc) with vegetables (the hundreds of different good and bad softeware programs out there).

Fck it! Eat both! :D

mwalker,

i see what your sayin, but that is also assuming you have a computer already. I mean, if i sold my mpc, and went out to build my computer setup i wouldnt hold myself back and i would have to have the best. That means protools like at least an mbox, reason, recycle, sample cds, midi keyboard, G4(if not G5 or titanium book), etc.

my point is, the mpc is the best sequencer ever, yeah software should not be slept on and definately is neccesary for mixing and recording, (nowadays youve got to have protools) and finishing everything on a computer is just so easy.

but as far as composing-for me to feel like im doing anything, i need an mpc, and a keyboard. If all i used was a computer i would have to buy alot of shit to get the same feeling i get out of an mpc. Ya know?

im not saying that money has anything to do with it, but with an mpc, i feel like a producer, Unless i really had a good compute setup i would feel like a kid with a computer. For me its all about feeling right. and a computer would cost more.

btw. i currently go to school for a M.I.S. degree; thats Management Informational Systems. I.e. its a computer degree-so for me, computers is part of my everyday thing, so my outlook may be a little differant. But i see computers as a tool, and not as an instrument. I love computers.

cyrus, i have a hardware studio and a top of the software studio (every top of the line vsti and cubase, acid 4, sound forge, gigasampler). i am just talking about MY EXPERIENCE with both hardware and software. as a group we have come to the conclusion that it is not the tool but who is using the tool. if the mpc works you, a banjo work for joe, a guitar works moe and software works for me it does not make a difference. we ALL are making music and that is the point. RIGHT GUYS :D .

cyrus, what is the 3rd normal form (this is a database question). i have a degree in math and computer science and a masters in finance.
