Debate about sampling and loop stacking from the Twin Cities

The local underground hip-hop forums from the twin cites has quite the heated debate about sampling and loop stacking. For all my Minnesota people. I thought it was an interesting read.

i mean im guilty or finding a loop and dropping drums but i hardly do that (im so what against it)..


sampling is not an "ART" but no everyone can do it, just like playing a keyboard or guitar, not everyone can play... thats why you sample...

i don't care about people's gripes on sampling. if the shit sounds nice after you've sliced, diced & chunked it, then let it be.
sampling & hip-hop, in my opinion, is making the old sound new again. giving it a breath of fresh air. in a sense, we're paying tribute to the great people who originally made the song! no, i'm not a musician, but with a little time & some records for inspiration, i can do the damn thing... remake the song how i hear it. so, for people to downplay producer's who sample (like myself & others), they can kiss my ass! say that shit to Just Blaze & Dr.Dre and watch them smack the shit out their ass because they we're bobbing their head to whatever hot shit that they put out at the time. those guys sound butthurt to me!

Can't agree more. What sounds good is good imho.

sampling takes skill and patience...in essence..it is a true artform...an audio collage...if you listen to someone who's just began making beats with samples..as opposed to a veteran..you'll definitely notice the difference!...IMO them keyboard beats is what's killin hip hop today...that's why that shit has no soul...

I thought it was funny. 90% of the beats that get made in the twin cities are sample based (and not poorly made), and this one guy (who I've never heard of) starts a flame war over it. But, like it was said before, what sounds good just sounds good, no matter how it was made.

I dont have a problem with sampling. If you hear a dope tune that uses a sample you dont know you can hunt down the sample and it turns you on to new music which is never a bad thing. I think both Prefuse 73 and Dilla really are amazing at sampling, they create something so new from what they sampled.

The ridiculous irony about this tired debate is that most of these composers who want to discredit someone who samples don't even have ANY HOT ISHT! Compose, compose, compose...and sound like a Mannie Fresh knock-off! It's pathetic! At the very least support your arguement with some tracks that don't sound like every Mannie Fresh, Shawty Redd or DJ Toomp single. These "composers" got to take those keyboards to another level before they even begin to discredit people like Kanye, for example...who works with musicians and his ASR. All that talk about having skills...and I don't even hear any! Same keys, same drums, same leads! At the least, my ear is hungry for a new sound to mold to my liking. Most cats with Tritons don't even use it for what it's made for: sound DESIGN.

This debate will keep on going strong until the end of time. People are way too judgemental these days.

this had been discussed plenty of times. like someone said, it'll continue till the end of time. i cant really hate cause before I was sampling, I was makin keyboard beats. and I think i made some aight joints. but at the same time, I cant see why sampling takes so much crit. but keyboard beat makers probably think the same thing about folks who sample. so in the end, its a matter of taste. there wont be an end cause everybody's different. everone is not always gon' like your style or you way of doin things. but who cares? do what you want. if that sh!t is great music then thats what it is. you aint even gottaa tell me what you used to make it.

I dont understand how people can knock sampling if they make or are a fan of hip hop. Its the basis of the Music! Without sampling there would be no hip hop!

chopping takes alotta time...maybe not the same time as doin it from scratch but its still music!
