Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

I searched & searched people, sorry! I just want to assign three of my six zones to individual pads, not create a whole program. I couldn't figure it out. The closest I saw was this in essential reading, but didn't say how to assign. Thanks in advance. much respect

"when want to finish and send it out to the pads, you goto EDIT then Slice Sound. If you want a new program the MPC will assign the sounds to the PADs. NO Program means you have to manully assign them in Program mode. :".......

I'm using the mpc2000xl. AFter chopping the sample, and the data is stored in the mpc, how do I save to individual pads. Is it as easy as pressing shift-program, and then will it ask to which pad? becasue I didn't get the option. I'm sorry I'm a resident and at teh hospital away from mpc, but this is killing me. Thank you so much for any info you can provide.
