Would I be wastin my time using both Software and MPC1K?

Whatz da deal beatfreakz? I am currently runnin Reason 3 on HP laptop with MPD24. I also got a desktop PC with Reason 3, FL 7, Cubase SX3, and Magix Samplitude with a Korg Pad Kontrol, Novation X Station, and Remote Zero SL. I been using software since I started producing in 2005. I got a strong desire to learn to make beats on the MPC1k, but I don't want to just totally diss the software set up I have invested both time and money in. Most of my software set up is very handz on, I barely use the mouse casue of the Remote Zero Sl and the drum pad controlers I got. I did get the ebook for the 1k from Mpc-tutor and checked it out and it looks like something I can get used to cause I am very handz on when it comes to making my tracks, I like touchin faders, and turning knobs etc. Using the MPD24 really got me wanting to get an MPC1k also (eventhough I know the MPC is a different beast than the MPD). My question is, if I am not willing to committ wholeheartedly to either the software set up or the MPC1k can I continue to excel at beatmakin like I have been? in other wordz, iz it stupid 4 me to try to excel in both? Just need honest opinions, cause I am considering bidding on a maxed out barely used MPC1k on ebay this week.

ok look... you got an mpd24 has WAY better pads then the 1000 and the 1k has pad probs, also you have a padkontrol which has better pads than the mpd24. Keep the software get rid of flstudio thats straight wack just use sytrus and the effects rest of it SUCKS and keep cubase sx3. Sell either the padkontrol or the mpd24 because basically they are the same. Get rid of that macbook too. Simple is better: MPD24/Reason/Cubase sx3 instead of buying mpc 1k get some good sample cds or a good vst. That's what I would do or get a motif rack, or maybe a analog synth. You can keep the the other two controllers i dont know what they are.

If you feel that due to the endless possibilites of software stagnating you then get an old school mpc: 60/3000/2000 these require you to think outside the box and your beats will be more creative.

To answer your question...NO! you wouldn't be wasting your money. I started with strictly software and was able to incorporate hardware fairly easily. It be get you on a different level.

Question for flow4Jc: Do you sample? If you do, stop reading this and get the MPC 1000, with JJ OS.

Alih, I have to respectfully disagree with MOST of your post. Flow4JC, I'd ignore his post. What position are you in to give advice about this subject when you don't even own hardware. You're post is strictly biased and misguided, in my honest opinion. Here goes...

FL Studio isn't wack...you get out of it what you put it. Ever heard of 9th Wonder, he uses FL. It's a nice lil program. Personally I use both software and hardware, Reason, Pro Tools, MPC, ASR 10, Triton Le (soon). I think I have the best of both worlds.

Don't let someone else tell you FL is wack, try it for yourself. I know people that make heaters with FL. I now people that get at least 1k a track using FL.

Also, I have the MPC 1000 and I don't have a problem with the pads. Some people do but me and my boi, NO PAD PROBLEMS yet. And there's a pad fix if/when it do happens.

What I suggest you do is go to your nearest Guitar Center and try the MPC 1000 out for yourself.

I have just began to really get into sampling. I have sampled a little bit in the past, but lately I really been trying to use Recycle to chop up samples so I can flip dem joints. I would say I am a half step ahead of a newbie when it comes to sampling.

Cool...the MPC is great for sampling/chopping.

can i ask those people getting 1k a beat with flstudio exactly WHAT KIND OF BEATS were they making? You know like gay newschool shit or oldschool? Oh and I never said that is the law flstudio is gay its just my opinion. I don't have hardware but have you ever heard people say master what you have first then move on to something else? I've tried fruity loops 3,4,5,6,7 yes all of them for me they all sucked thats why i chose reason its more streamlined and you don't have to deal with all the fruityisms of fl studio. Lastly, who cares if 9th wonder uses fl studio its not what you use to make the beat its how the beat sounds that all it is right, am i wrong?

Now you sound reasonable. Imo reason sucks, mainly because it doesnt allow 3rd party plugins, very limiting to your sound.

IMO, having both software/hardware only gives you more options. I wish this was an option 10-15 yrs ago when all there was was hardware basically.

reason does not allow you to use 3rd party apps but thats a limitation and i like limitations but if you really wanna use software AND hardware you would not use reason for the whole thing you would probably be rewiring reason into cubase or live or sonar then midi controlling with your hardware. I still think simple is better forces YOU to be more creative and thats a good thing.

I started out using hardware because that's all there was basically, I started integrating software into my setup and it's awsome. For me, the MPC works very beautifully with software. Just like peanut butter and jellaay.
