Have you ever had someone come up behind you and just scream like some kind of primitive being, scaring the bejeezus out of you?

Imagine if you had that same kind of threat, except while working on the MPC.

That's right, my MPC will randomly output HIGH VOLUME STATIC with BLEEPS AND SYNTHESIZER NOISES. Imagine making music while all the while knowing that any moment your ears could be in for a FULL VOLUME SONIC ASSAULT.

It's **** fascism!

Does anyone have any suggestions, who to call (shut up venkman), or what to do????????

I've returned my MPC once and got a new mpc....with the SAME PROBLEM!!!!

do you have a loop in your wiring somewhere? does this only do it when you go into record mode? if you have a loop in your analog cabling or in the digital, when you select either mode in the record screen, you will get a feedback loop and the sound through the headphones won't be pleasant at all

hello,

I had the same problem when I had my mpc1000(now i changed to mpc 500)
I never understood what it could be. It did to me few times, but I noticed that it was hapening always with one project in particular loaded.Maybe check if it does it with one project or with all.I don't know if this can help you.Good luck.

this always happens to me with 1 sample on a vinyl rhodes program i downloaded from someone

it's a problem with the wav files not the mpc, i believe
if you're just sampling everything on the mpc it won't happen

Thanks for the responses...

To clarify:

1) It isn't a feedback noise, it's a very unique sound.
2) It is triggered seemingly at random, but only while on the main screen with a sequence playing.
3) The static can also be accompanied with a symphony of samples. You know when you go to the trim screen and hold a pad and just turn the data wheel listening to all the samples very quickly? Just like that. Except with ear splitting static.

So again, Static like from a tv at full volume (can be eliminated by turning down the main volume.) MPC still functions in full, I can save my work. I have no clue how to fix this, and it is most definately a bug. JJ didn't have anything to say about it, but I had this problem with my last 1000 before I upgraded.

Nym,
It can be triggered with MPC samples of either kind!
I might try using the new AKAI os, maybe that will help.

You got it too?

It's preventing me from doing any sequencing, very annoying. Past it's warranty period too. What kind of person would be able to fix this problem?

Wow.. that's a tough one. This is the second MPC with the SAME problem?

Some questions to help troubleshoot it:

1. Which OS version?
2. Is it the same OS version you had installed on the other MPC when it did the same thing?
3. If it is the same OS, is it the same download of the OS? Or did you re-download it when you installed on the 2nd machine?
4. Did you try a system reset and re-install of the OS?
5. Are you using CF Card or HardDrive?
6. If hard drive, is it the same one you had in the other machine? (Or same CF Card?
7. Are you using the same RAM you had installed in the other machine?

That's all I can think of right now. My gut instinct is that it is not an OS bug, partly since this is the first I've heard of it, and it seems that it is pretty random from what you say.

1. Which OS version? Only the latest and greatest from JJ.

2. Is it the same OS version you had installed on the other MPC when it did the same thing? The previous MPC only used the old akai os. Basically the stock one that comes with the MPC. The error was different, but similar. It would blast static, but also play the default samples in a very fast tempo. It seems to me that these problems have the same origin.

3. If it is the same OS, is it the same download of the OS? Or did you re-download it when you installed on the 2nd machine? Re-Downloaded each time.

4. Did you try a system reset and re-install of the OS? Yes, on both machines. Also tried JJ os on both mpc's.

5. Are you using CF Card or HardDrive? CF card is a San Disk 1.0 Gb, I have never used the harddrive.

6. If hard drive, is it the same one you had in the other machine? (Or same CF Card? Yes, the CF card seems to be ruled out as it would blast with either the stock card or the san disk.

7. Are you using the same RAM you had installed in the other machine?
This is an interesting question. Yes, I am. I am using ShikaRAM 256Mb 144 Pin SDRam Pc133 16MX8

Perhaps it could be the RAM? Best to try that first before letting someone poke around the insides of a perfectly good MPC.

Thanks for the questions, it does help.

Yeah, the ram sounds suspicious... It's the only common thing between the 2 machines. I don't think I have heard of anyone using that particular chip in their MPC... I would try taking it out and either running with just the stock 16mb for a while, or buy a different ram chip from somewhere you know you can return it, and try that.

Check the sticky topic for RAM chip recommendations. Personally, I am using the Kingston Ram and have had no problems.

Are you useing balanced cable? could possibly be picking up electrical static from you PC or a power source? (granted this doesnt explain the strange sample effect but might be somthing to look at)
