Help With Syncing Mpc 500 & Mc 808 Together

this thread is collecting dust..maybe no one has the answer.. pardon me if i sound stupid, but 9 out of 10 Akai Users wouldn't have a Roland 808 because roland 808 is like the "wanna be" MPC... It's like the same type of midi production center module? Wouldn't that be like hooking up an mpc 500 to an mpc 2000xl and playing sounds out of it midi wise. Why would anyone want to do that?
Basically you get a sound module weather it's a keyboard or a rack.. motif ES for example and u can play the voices from the motif es on the pads of the mpc and or roland 808.. you wouldn't hook up a keyboard eg: MOTIF up to a PHANTOM and play the keys on one midi to another.. that wouldnt' make much sense. maybe i'm wrong.. maybe i'm right.. lol.. good luck anyhow.. i figured i'd just answer your thread before you go virtually postal on us.

I can see you dont know what you talking about, just from your above statement.... so with that said im gonna leave it at that.....

and for the record dont confuse the Mc 808 with the Sp 808 (Roland Mc 808 Is A Way Different Machine And 5 Times Better) .... (Laughing at you comparing the Roland Mc-808 To The Akai Mpc 2000xl Totally Different Machines And The Roland Mc 808 Will Run Laps Around It) Do me a favor, next time you speak on something please do your research....

And 1 more thing As far as the sound alone makes the Roland Mc 808 a must have.... Comparing it to The Above machine shows you have no clue as to what you are talking about....

Scorsese, I think you need to just chill out. Every damn post I've seen (and there have been quite a few about this 808 jive) you seem to be flipping out. People are so much more inclined to be helpful if you seem like a bit easier going. Anyways man, don't take this the wrong way. Hope your gear gets sorted out.

hey milky, that's the reason his threads gather dust. I looked up the roland MC 808...it's a sampling groove box.. my point was, it basically does what the akai mpc series do.. sample.. playback samples in sequences... who cares which one is better everyone has their own preference and this IS and MPC FORUM..
........and for the record.. if u have the midi wires connected correctly and u still don't hear any sounds coming from the mpc, while depressing pads on your MC808.... nahh u figure it out, because "i don't know what i'm talking about"... I hope you have asprin for that frustration headache..

I guess we have to start with the basic basic's...
midi only sends out controler data/notes..etc..Not audio
So...

You CAN press pad + 7, set your sync to slave or master..
Master meaning you set the 808 to slave, and connect your midi cable to the midi out of the mpc 500, to the in of the 808..and the out of the 808 to the in of the 500..This will allow you to record, and sync anything you play on the 808, to the patterns of the mpc 500..However because no audio is transmitted over midi, you will need to have a mixer connected to play back Both the mpc 500 and the 808 over there respective outputs..

You can then reverse this, set mpc 500 to slave, 800 to master. same rules apply, whatever tempo you have set..etc, will sync on playback or record from the 808 to the 500..so your sounds on the 500 will be triggerd from the 808, or if you are using the 500 just for its pads, and you have set the pads to the CC numbers, you can trigger what you have loaded on the 808, keep in mind again, if your triggering sound stored on both devices, you still will need a mixer to play both back..and hear it...

there's like a three point check list on midi
1. make sure the midi wires work and are attached firmly
2. make sure the IN is connected to the OUT and vice versa with both midi wires
3. make sure there's audio out put coming from both devices especially the one that one wants to hear sounds from...
