I have an external SCSI CD drive - does that mean when i swap the floppy internal drive with the card reader that the internal card reader will be the last one in the chain?

I don't know how to enable the terminator - i'm not confident enough that i would do it right without some help off someone on here. That diagram doesn't help me at all.

No, the CD drive will be the last device in the scsi chain and as long as that is terminated, all the others scsi devices should be too. So you'll need to set the Termination to 'Off' on your card reader.

With regards to the SCSI ID's as long as you set the card reader ID to a different number than that of your CD drive and the MPC (ID6) you will be fine.

Thanks mate, the CD drive is terminated but i will probably unplug it once the card reader is installed. So does this mean i set the termination on my card reader to 'On'?

You could do that but it might cause problems if you then hook your external cd drive up. Worth a try although it would probably be less hassle to put a terminator on your MPC's external scsi connector.

Okay... to be honest i'm in a bit of a muddle about the SCSI thing. All i know is that i need to sort something out... quick! Backing up to floppies is driving me crackers!

Once card reader is installed (finally) i probably will either disconnect the CD drive or more than likely leave it connected but just turned off.

Not sure where this leaves me in regards to the settings on the PCD47B card-reader.

At a guess the yellow circled jumper bank controls termination, so if you leave the jumper off the top prongs the device should be terminated (or not terminated if the jumper is fitted).
I think the red circled bank controls SCSI ID, so in theory if you leave all the jumpers off that set it should give you either ID 0 or 1.

Of course its conceivable that these two banks are the opposite way around but hopefully it should work fine with no jumpers at all.

I only managed to get a 75cm SCSI cable - i think it's going to be a bit long. Is that going to be a problem?

No mate that should be ok. I think the max cable length permitted with most SCSI set ups is 6 feet (that includes internal cabling as well).
