"Insufficient Memory" when loading samples

Hello everyone,

I have a great drum kit that I have saved to my flash card, but when I try and create a program, I get the "Insufficient Memory" error message after the 4th or 5th sample. I have made sure that the .wav file's sampling rate is 44100, and 16 bit. I also noticed that the file sizes on the preset samples are much smaller than other samples.

I am totally stumped. Thank you in advance for your help.

by the looks of things u need more ram

by i cant see why if your only loading a few sampels its not letting you but its prob u need more ram

Another issue I noticed was that the preset samples are very small in size. For ex: a snare in the MPC preset is about 200kb, whereas my .wav snare is 2,000kb. I double checked to make sure it was sampled at 44100 and 16 bit.

do you have a lot of extra space at the end of the sample? because 2,000k is like a 10-12 second sample if it is in stereo. Either that snare sample has a really long decay or you are wasting space by recording blank audio.

If you can't cut the sample time down, then you could convert to mono. That would at least make the sample about half the size.

Getting more memory would definitely help, but there's no point in saving samples larger than they need to be. Cut out any blank space that's not needed to save on sample time and space.

There are also workarounds. For instance you could pitch up your samples to make them shorter, then pitch them back down again once you load them into the MPC. They will take up less space but still play at normal speed

This method was used a lot to make the most out of the limited memory in older samplers like the SP-12 and SP-1200

I am still having trouble though... For instance, when I trim off the end of a crash cymbal, it sounds so abrubt. I want the natural resonance of the cymbal, but to have that sound takes up 2MB. Even with the memory upgrade, there still wouldn't be enough room:( Is there a way to edit fade in/out on the MPC 1000?

with 128 u should be fine. also cut them in say soundforge but do it in small amounts making them as short as possible but keeping enough of teh natural fade off for it to sound natural.

almost all of us here are limited to 128 2k users even less and we have no problems.

maybe you have something in autolaod? not sure if that effects when u load up.

Yeah, I've been researching some of the other posts, and it looks like there is a hard drive adapter, the Akai HDM-10, which would allow you to attach an external hard drive. Does this just affect the storage capacity like a flash card, or would it allow me to load more samples/sequences/programs like the EXM memory chip would?

just store, a HDD or FC are not fast enough. Ram is where all samples are loaded for instant acess

Turn up the decay if your sample is stopping abrupt. You hardly ever need a 12 sec. cymbal tail.
