Who the **** paints there pads come on don't you know anything about painting. Pretty much any kind of paint is not going to adhere to the pads and it's jsut gonna crack and make a mess but good luck with that.

my dad owns an autobody shop so i would bet i know more about paint than anybody on this board. yes you are right you average spray paint would just flake off but there are paints design for rubber but prolly still a bad idea for mpc pads i just seen some red pads on a custom job i thought was cool and wondered if he dyed them or you can buy them from somewhere. anyways have fun

I know there is paint that would adhere but it's not going to stay cause you are pushing on the pads and thats gonna make it deteoriate & crack. You use to be able to buy them from VST Service in Red & Yellow now they only have Black, Dark Gray, Light Gray.

First of all... just to let it be known, THAT IS NOT MY ONLY TECHNIQUE OF SAMPLING. The way I'm doing them in my videos is just my "quickie" style, to keep the videos in the youtube time-limit, and keep people interested. Some of my sampling techniques take me a WHOLE lot of time, and trust me... you'd be BORED AS HELL watching it on video lol.

But anyways... moving on... like I said before, what I'm doing in those videos is not really complicated at all. It's pretty much one of the BASIC sampling techniques that a lot of sample based producers do (Pete Rock, Ski etc.). Simply slicing loops and playing the chops in whatever order you see fit.

*SO LET ME TRY MY BEST TO EXPLAIN*

If you're trying to keep the sample flowing smoothly without empty spaces in between, you have to pay attention to your timing. If a sample you take is 100 bmps, but you play your chops of it slower than 100 bpms... it's going to cause those "empty spaces" in between. If you play it it FASTER than 100 bpms... it'll still remain smooth, but it WILL definitely change the swing of the original sample's rhythm, which SOMETIMES sounds even better and more jumpy. Sometimes doing that will sound a little unnatural. It just depends on the sample.

So let's say you want to be able to play your 100 bpm sample chops at around 90 bpms without it sounding like a choppy hot mess. Simply either... 1) time-stretch the loop to that tempo BEFORE you chop it OR 2) manually tune every pad of your chops down a notch or two (which will also bring the sample down a key/scale and 5 bmps slower every notch). Set your click-track/metronome to the desired tempo, and let it play as you practice your chop-playing over it to make sure everything sounds smooth. Once it sounds right as you play it to the tempo.... boom!... lay down your drums and everything else you see fit for the beat. Easy as that... and it all boils down to your EAR. You gotta naturally know or train your ear to realize when something works and when it doesn't.

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY!!!!! If you're going to chop a loop up and use this sampling technique... YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT IT'S LOOPING PERFECTLY BEFORE YOU CHOP IT! I repeat... BEFORE YOU CHOP IT! The loop starting or ending too soon or too late will pretty much ruin the WHOLE process.

Hope this helped. Peace & God bless!

damu is so fluent... and doesnt say stuff like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4jAllTGFUM

He ain't even on Damu's level!

I don't sit around and compare myself to people.. so, to each his own. But....

That's what a lot of ya'll cats fail to understand. This whole "who's on who's level" is POINTLESS when it comes to TRUE PRODUCTION! What I mean by TRUE PRODUCTION.... is composing and arranging songs with artists.. let me emphasize that word one more time.. SONGS. It don't matter how "hot" a producer's beat is... if you get a rapper on his/her beat that has no rhythm/flow, no breath control and a weak vocal presence... the ENTIRE SONG will be ruined.... the beat won't mean shit! There's MORE to producing than beats, whether it's sampled or originally composed. Me, Damu, or ANYONE for that matter, AIN'T SHIT WITHOUT THE ARTIST no matter who's "level" we're on.

Open up that third eye, fellas!! OH... and to the one who mentioned about the things I said in that one video where I quoted "If I **** up.. kiss my ass, it ain't easy switchin' these damn banks!".... That's just how I talk amongst friends... I cuss like a sailor... so, the **** what?... it's nothing serious. And OBVIOUSLY you didn't watch the whole video to see what I had to say at the end. As Jay-Z said... a lot of ya'll just "skim through it".... (sigh) Peace

What's up Boon Doc? I'm feeling the beats. The Temptations chop in the video was very nice (and not to mention creative!) and the one you got on your soundclick page with the Sly, Slick and Wicked (shhh) sample is also dope as hell.

I got a couple of quick questions, though. What you're saying is that when you use that particular chopping technique you don't fine-tune the zone points at all i.e. you make the loop perfect and slice it into 16 100% equal parts?

[Also, I'm guessing this is why you don't have to worry about notes overlapping?? Cause that to me was the hardest part to figure out-- how to do all that crazy chopping and make do with the MPC's limited "note off" function... EDIT: NEVER MIND I READ THAT YOU CAN DO THAT ON THE MPC1000, SUCKS FOR US 2K(XL) USERS]

After the change up the sample seems to go on forever.

How can I learn to sample like this guy? Are there any video tutorials on sampling like this for the 2000xl?

find out yourself.....turnoff the comp, flip that mpc switch to on, sample, loop/chop, and see how it sounds. sounds bad? do it again, still not good?. DO IT AGAIN. take influence, but please don't get stuck on trying to be someone else.

That is the worst analogy I have ever heard "Kido". You have no idea what the **** your talking about. Damu mixes down on a MTR and Boon Doc mixes down on PT's Mbox so yeah they gonna sound different.

You just got Ether'd by Boon. Unsubscribe now.

SMH at you trying to act like you know who does what, and who's on who's level...

LMAO. your either under 20, with very little life experience. Or Above 20, with even less life
experience.

Real dudes do THEIR own thing. Learn to appreciate other Musicians, and keep it moving.
We spend time crafting our practice, and less time foot noting other people. That alone isnt
a problem. The problem begins, when one starts to dictate whos on whos level, and what not.

You lost. You arent on ANYONES level, and you were the weakest link before you even posted.

GOOD BYE.

Thanks fam.. appreciate it. Yeah, I don't fine-tune the zone points when I'm doing THAT particular chopping technique. As long as it loops correctly, I'm good to go. I don't slice into 16 parts all the time though. It depends on the length of the loops... a lot of times I'll take 4 different parts of a song and figure out a way to mesh them after chopping... it could be 2, 4, 8 or even 12 parts that I chop equally. It all depends.

And if you have a problem with notes overlapping on the 2XL... decide what orders you're going to be playing your pads in... and then go to Parameters, go to where the Mono/Poly section is, and you can choose pads to mute out each other when another is pressed... something like that. My room-mate has the 2XL and does just fine with it
