Installed PCD47B but it doesn't work.

Just took my MPC 2000XL apart and put in the PCD47B put it all back together again, turned it on and it doesn't work.

I get a power light show up on the drive when i put a Compact Flash card in but when i go to load anything from it on the MPC it won't show up as a drive.

Any ideas anyone?

1. Make sure to use the correct SCSI ID.
I'm using the same reader, but in different sampler. From what I figured out, the SCSI ID assignements on the top panel of the reader are not correspondent to the actual state they work in. So, for example, SCSI ID given for Compact Flash slot does not work in my case. I had to manually find the correct ID number under which it actually works.

2. How large is your flash card? Is it over 2 gigs? It could cause some troubles then, but not necessarily.

3. One rule of thumb - it's better to check the reader (or anything else you install in mpc for that matter), before you close your machine and put it back together. If something goes wrong, like right now, you won't need to unscrew everything once again.

Thanks for replying mate. I'm not really sure how i set the SCSI ID - i can't work out the diagram at all that's on the case.

Next time i won't put all the screws back in before trying it.

On the set of pins on the right (the vertical row of i put one jumper going across the top two pins thinking that would terminate the drive.

The card i'm using is a 1GB one.

I just tried it with that one jumper there and left the other jumper i had off. Does anyone on here have a PCD47B in their 2000XL and know where i place the two (or just one of them) jumpers i've got?[/u]

CF, SM, PC are names of three slots. You are interested in Compact Flash one, from what I noticed.
So, the numbers 2 / 4 / 4 / 5 / 6 / - / - are SCSI ID's. If you want to check the reader under SCSI ID 2, you need to leave the pins without any jumpers. If you want to check the reader under SCSI ID 4, you need to place one jumper on the 2 bottom pins.
The top row of pins is only for the termination. I'm not sure about it though, but if you are planning to use only this card reader, you should terminate the reader. However it will be better to wait for someone else to confirm it.

As I wrote before, remember that these ID settings didin't work in my case. I don't know why, but my Compact Flash card was readable under SCSI ID number 3 as far as I remember. ID number 3 doesn't even appear on the chart for CF slot.

Thanks mate, i tried using the external CD drive and it still works (but i thought that with the one jumper on it would be terminated. This is how i have it, just one jumper on the top two pins i have circled in yellow...



When you talk about setting the jumpers to determine the SCSI ID are you talking about the pins that are horizontal in my photo or the vertical ones in my photo?

I'm talking about the vertical ones. The ones that are on the left side of the photo are used for some purposes I don't know. Probably firmware updates and other stuff. Anyway, you determine ID using vertical pins (on the right of the photo).

That makes a lot more sense... right, i think i'm starting to understand it a bit more.

Will try and take it apart again tomorrow - i'm drowning my sorrows tonight!

Will try not putting any jumpers on at all and seeing if that works.

sorry to hijack this thread, but it seems you're good to go and i'm having a similar problem on a 2000xl mcd....it came stock with the card reader, but i don't see any power light come on when i put in a cf card. when i eject it, however, the light comes on for a sec. i'm unable to load or save anything, and i've tried numerous scsi device #'s. mine goes from 1-7, as well as having a floppy device selection (but there's no floppy). any troubleshooting advice? i'm going crazy; i've wanted an mpc for years and now i can't even use it although it's sitting right in my room....!

You need to set it to Atapi device. The SCSI device don't do shit for what you trying to do.

thanks for taking the time with this. i was afraid of that, though....i saw a video on youtube saying that. trouble is: atpi isn't an option that my machine gives....it just gives a bunch of scsi #'s, floppy, or f-rom......would you say this means the reader is broken?

oh, just as further info: i've been trying to select the device using the jog wheel.
