i pulled this quote from Justin Baro's email response to Gregg.

Gregg,

Sometimes AKAI or specific Dealers will run various promotions on MPC’s at times, so there may be some units out there that already have some options installed. If you are fortunate enough to find a unit with this option already installed, that’s great. I have no way of knowing what models any particular store has on their shelves.

though i don't believe him, he's basically saying that it's 100% complete LUCK OF THE DRAW in terms of who gets what when they buy an mpc.

there is NOTHING on the box that says "PADS FIXED"
apparently something about a black back casing
but how ludicrous is it - you're buying something and you don't even know the contents. it's like me buying a computer and being told "oh it might have a 400 gig hard drive in there, or a 40. we have no way of telling."

that's a FANTASTIC way to do business, justin!!!!! kudos on your hard work

KEEP IT UP, ****

Antonym wrote:dvs - i've thought so much about a lawsuit but the fact is that i don't feel like investing MY time. however, i would certainly lend technical support, ie a write up of the scenario, description of the problem, etc etc etc. just keep me away from all the legal stuff cuz it's over my head.

I'm waiting to hear what Akai tells me in their e-mail. If they are truly manufacturing new 1000's with the pad upgrade already installed and then selling them for the same price as they always were, then I think a class action lawsuit would stand a very good chance at holding up in court.

Also, has anyone tried to get the pad upgrade under warranty yet?

I can understand them wanting to charge for users who are out of warranty (although the 180 price tag is ridiculously high considering the situation) but users with broken pads should be able to get new ones under warranty it would seem.

Anybody here got any lawyer friends and a lot of spare time? (I never actually bought my 1000 new, so I really have no room to **** about things from a legal standpoint)

I just called Akai. I still have my warranty until December. They'll INDIVIDUALLY fix the pads with the same old bullshit one's... but they won't give me the new set of pads unless I buy them. I'M PISSED!!!

these dudes are crazy man. Theres enough of us here to force them to wake up. We need to set up a date to or something and have all the forum members email them, call them, mail them sh!t...whatever it takes. Any major company will eventually give in if you pressure them enough. Sh!t is wrong man.
