how long have you guys/girls been making beats ...

i am just curious to see the different backgrounds.

since late 2000-2001.......was a guitarist in a number of bands before that...

started with an akai s20......wrote some cool little chunes and essentially cut my teeth....

progressed to a roland mc505- like the seq and synth capabilities......honed my skils using that and an s2000.....

drooled over the mpc for too long (have never been into music composition on the pc) and finally shelled...that must have been some time in 2001-2002.....

and here i am.....definitly feel ive got better but ive got a long way to go...

Brief musical history.

'89 - '96 - saxophone. Took lessons. Played big band jazz & classical.
'96 - '98 - picked up bass guitar & electric guitar, played punk rock, ska & hardcore.
'98 - '99 - played guitar and sang in various hardcore & grindcore outfits.
'99 - '01 - didn't play much, except some guitar at home and some garage rock w. some friends. Started an indie label.
'02 - '03 - started messing with computer-based recording. Made electro and messed up electronica. Released an ep.

~ 4-5 months ago - today, starting slowing the electro stuff down and began adding some hip-hopish elements to it.

Since 99 started using computer programs, then went to hardware.
started learning about artists to sample in 2002 but mostly copped shit on cd.
started digging 4 vinyl in 2003.

Getting a portable in a week or so then ima get hella sick with the diggin, and expect my production to improve in correlation with my diggin and it has been so far so its gonna get better.

i started basically when i joined the forum. oct. 1 2003

1989.
Started producing radio programs.
Got tricked into producing Hiphop by a friend.

Started on a DR550mkII (if you want to call it "started"), really got my feet wet with a DR-202/Akai S20 Combo.

Now use a MPC2000XL, Roland JV-2080(soon to be a MOTIF ES) combo.

Started in January of this year on a 1k.

5 long years! started on a dr5 after about 9 months on that i jumped on a 2k. im happy now

Started makin beats when my mom was 3 months preg with me, she said that she used to feel me bangin on the inside of her tummy, from that point on, she knew what her son's destiny was going to be.

it started back in 99 when my homie had this music program for the playstation 1 called "music generator".i heard him make some crazy beats on it,so i copped it as well,then just messed around with that for a bit and started looking for the real shizznit.thats when i heard about the mpc.had to wait 4 years but i finally got my mp and now we be rawkin sh!t!

i was going to get a triton but the pads are what attracted me

Started way back in '87 on my DR 110 (mono a$$ machine).
I just got my MPC2KXL almost 2 months ago
