Saving

I finally got the hang of my 2000xl to the point where I am very comfortable, but what is the proper way to save my beats and programs to my internal zip disk?

For an example.. I have a zip disk with 2 programs only. I load them up and do what I do. When I finish I have multiple sequences, and song. Before turning the MPC off.. I chose "save all programs and sounds", and then I chose "save all sequences and songs".

Now I want to start a new beat, or make a new program. If I start the MPC up with the disk already in it.. it loads everything up automatically. I don't want it to load up all of previous sequences, songs, and programs.. so I would take the zip disk out and turn the power back off and on again. I then insert the zip disk, and instead of loading it up automatically for me it would let me pick whatever I want to load individually.

I then only load up the program I need, and start a fresh sequences, song, for fresh new beat. I might create a new program while I am at it if I was sampling.
After I am finished with that.. I choose "save a program and sounds", and I would choose "save all sequences and song" and rename it to whatever I might want to call my song.

BUT, here's the problem.. when I load up EVERYTHING and go between my .ALL files.. my sequences are not the same. Some of my sounds are replaced with different sounds, and it's all screwed up.

I know there's something that I am doing wrong but I can't figure out what could it be.
Help me out here fellas.

then I save all programs and sounds. .aps
then load them and boot up the machine

So you do this each time, and everytime?
What about when it tell you that the .APS file already exist? Do you replace everytime, or do you rename it?

Anybody have any idea from reading my thread what could be causing this. I spend hours making a song, and it all goes down the drain.
Somebody help me out here.. I read the manual, but it does not specify on what I am trying to figure out.

Most of the time I use the same programs, so I don't save an APS file. But your answer is above. I usually load the same 4 programs or a variation and LOAD the saved ALL file that I save. All saves programs and sequences & Songs. It's not very hard, just make up some TEST beats and try loading/saving them, that's what I did to learn how it works. The manual is indeed dry, but the definitions explain exactly what EACH saving choice does in the FILE definitions. Don't be too impatient, it takes time and then everything will make sense in the end. I suggested a while back to a person to LEARN what they thought was most important first and then go back and learn the rest. Following the manual from Beg, to End is too boring.

bboutit, thanks for trying to help. I really appreciate it. this is not the first time that this has happened. I've probably made about over 20 beats eversince I've learned about my new MPC, and today I have none.

What I don't understand is that... I save my beats like how everybody else save their beats. All programs and sounds first, then I save all sequences and song.
Now.. if I don't make any new beats over the same disk then of a course everything is fine. It's when I do make multiple songs on the same disk that gives me this problem.

I am confused as fuk right now.. because I can't figure out what I am doing wrong.
Am I suppose to make a new folder for each new tracks??

YES!!... boys i think we have a winner!!

the mpc can only recognize 256 files in the same folder (that includes the root directory of you zip disk). also, you should be renaming your *pgm *asp & *all files different names other than NEWPGM or ALL_SEG. that's what i do.. new folder for each new beat and any changes/adjustments made just re-save the *all and *asp files.. no need for a new folder when all the same samples are in the same folder.

make sure u purge all sounds before u load a new program and also delete the old program
