wow you're confused.

5. There is no internal sound of a metronome. (Only CLICK and SAMPLE)

I am confused Ant, what the heck does that mean? What doesn't work?

By earwolf Sun Nov 25, 2007 10:46 pm
i think what has happened is jj has hacked the 'preset space'

this means certain stuff that used to be autoloaded/internal/preset gets wiped for os2

in reality none of that is any biggie at all - it takes a second to load up your programs, and so what - i remember the pain of the sp12, the ex5 and the sp808 so i have no issue with the mpc loading speed

what IS dangerous is losing specific workflow or performance features that users have come to rely on

for me i can lose layer 4 and filter 2 no problem - 2 layers is all i use, the filters are azz (as are the fx)

however things like track mutes and next seq need to work 100%, 100% of the time, on any os i use

From what I understand, the clicks are still there. You just will not be able to choose a sample to use in the place of the clicks. This is the way it is for every MPC currently except for the JJOS 1.

Also, I think that JJ has gone above and beyond what he promised back when he originally charged $30 for OS1. A few months ago, we were under the assumption that there would not be any future updates due to the memory limitations on the MPC. Paying an extra $39 for more features is a bargain compared to what some of the major Audio companies charge for simple updates. Ask Digidesign, every update is $50-$75. I have been reading the boards and it's funny when people complain about future updates. What if there were no JJ? Then we would all still be using the Akai OS which had major bugs. Some people don't understand the power that we have at our disposal. There has NEVER been a direct link between consumer and programmer for any product out there where the programmer actually listens. We all have the option of never updating to OS2. This will resolve some peoples issues of not being able to add 20000 Filters on each sound. In other words, if it works for you the way it is currently, then DON'T UPGRADE.

wudsiba, we'll be able to use the old fashioned click or a sample loaded into the current session's RAM as a metronome.

all this talk of features being removed is kind of overblown. what is being removed is hugely insignificant compared to what's being put in in terms of control of sound.

i don't agree

i don't need to sculpt sounds to the nth degree in an mpc like an overanalyzing belgian trance ponce

i DO need to play the mpc mutes and sequences and swing and groove like a piano, like a dub master professor deep in the mix at 3am just vibing out on the sheer heaviness of the situation

i need real-time everything - whatever can be added to help the creation of groove

i can sculpt the sounds offline - adsr is nothing to me

hahaha well hell man, why limit the possibilities? i like how you're thinking
different styles of martial arts, you know. 5thElementNinja knows.

if each os offered a cool workflow, i'd buy every one and learn it inside and out. with audio tracks and a suitable, cooperative daw like reaper

kind of like the original OS plugins that pre-jj created, WING1000 and the other one.

if anyone still has those i'd love to load them, since i never did

cuz hes sure pissing alot of folks off!

f*** sound sculpting, non destructive chopping, and adsr!
(sorry about my sarcasm! i cant wait to use these kick @$$ features!)

:o my second filter!!!!!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

whatever! as long as i can resample im straight! 8)

you know os 2.11 looks mighty tempting right now. I think im going to switch back. I miss getting my beats erased!

Looks like theres still going to be 3 layers to play with on each pad.. I can live with that.

The new OS2 looks great. ASDR and keygroups. And the pitch envelope I've been waiting for!!!! WOW!!!! Then the more I read and found out they removed track velocity percentage from the main screen. Then I found out they removed velocity control of the amp envelope (and filter) altogether!!!!!! WHAT??!!!!!! For me, track velocity is heavily used and thats how I can easily mix my drum samples as far as adjusting levels without changing program settings. In other words, I use the velocity as the volume for each track as an easy way to mix a beat (although I know velocity and volume are technically two different things).

The ASDR and pitch env is nice, but not at the expense of losing something critical such as velocity control of the amp env and track velocity, especially considering the fact JJ's asking another $39 for the upgrade. Therefore, I'm not upgrading unless/until amp env velocity control and track velocity are reimplemented. The other limitations I could live with (loss of filter 2, no layer 4, etc...)

Please JJ, give us back track velocity and full velocity control over the amp and filter envelope!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh yeah, it would also be nice if we had "3-band parametric eq" as an additional option for filter 1. That way we could "eq" each pad like in the MV8800. I'll add this to the features request. Just a thought.

6. The Next sequence in a main screen is IMMEDIATELY START only.

What exactly does this mean?
