MPC60 Series I vs. II

I already conducted research on SCSI, but wanted to hear it from a user's point of view.

Is the MPC60 worth getting without an SCSI option?

do you prefer floppies or 100mb-250mb zips?

do you make music with .kb size small enough to fit on one disk? Or are you willing to save 1 song across 2-3 floppies when you could fit all your data from numerous songs on 1 zip.

Bigger storage size is a good thing. I would have to get it.

Do you want to someday put a CF reader in your mp? You'll need SCSI for that too.

Ain't nothing wrong with floppies, but zip holds more data.

these old beasts are stupid slow.

SCSI ZIPs are fast on the MP. Easy power up, easy access, fast saving, faster uploading!

Buy a 60 that already has all the upgrades b/c its a pain in the arse to do it as you go.

if your SCSI ever fizzes out or vice versa (floppy drive dies), your not out of commission.

You can use floppies while your zip is dead or vice versa.

How could you not want multiple storage options...

I think the I is one of the most beautiful machines ever built. That doesn't mean I don't like the II though, I just like the I better...

OS 3.10 + SCSI will set you back about 450$ when you order it from roger linn. Take this into account when comparing prices on used 60's.

But hey, if I got a 60 from my girl, I wouldn't mind spending some cash on a SCSI/OS upgrade.

Things to watch out for:
- screen has to be in great condition
- floppy drive needs to work (although I reckon some people sell their 60 after having a little bit of trouble with the floppy drive. I think they'll clean it so it works for a limited time and sell the machine. Therefore the floppy drive will be in good working condition when you get it but only work for a week or two -- also a replacement floppy drive will set you back about 100$ when ordering from a service center, but you can always get cheaper ones and fiddle with the jumper settings)

Either way, can't go wrong with either machine. I'd prefer a I over a II but that's a matter of preference I guess.

Hi all, i am new to these forums, and from this thread most of you seem to be talking about your preference for the look of the 60 Vs 60ii.

I was just wondering as someone who is hoping to buy one if there is any difference between the sound of each machine (60 vs 60ii) ie the sound processors.

I did a quick search but could not find any topics about this. Apologies if there have been, please direct me there.

They first brought out the I obviously. The II is the same machine, only cheaper casing and the screen is fixed (cannot be tilted) but it has also the headphone jack. Sound wise and feature wise, they're almost exactly the same. Because of this people mostly talk about looks since there's hardly any other difference.
