Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hi, first time caller, long time listener....

The data wheel on my newly bought used MPC2000xl doesnt work. The center peg has been pushed down, and apparently not engaging the selector device. If I pull up on the wheel as I spin it, I can get it to make selections, but only part-time.
Looks like the actuator for the data wheel is one small metal box item.
Is there any fix for this short of getting/ installing a new actuator?
Im OK, not great with electronics, is this a diy thing , or send in and get it fixed thing?.
How is AKAI at repair / service? Anyone very familiar with this problem that would be willing to fix it if I send em the circuit board?

Thanks,
Mark

I think the better move would be to let them service it since there's other stuff connected on the board that you might not want to damage..

newly bought? bring it or send it back from where you got it from and slap them then tell them you want a freshy fresh. that would be the policy of most stores. you should have 15-30 days to slap them and tell them you want a new one.

i had the same problem. fixed ti by using a piece of plastic fork as a wedge to put the pin back up and ingage into the actuator. took some tweaking and sounds pretty crude but its worked for about 6 months now.

I've got an image of your MPC with this plastic fork sticking out of the data wheel & maybe a plastic knife in the floppy drive....& crumbs over everything.
