New to MPC , have a question for MPC60 owners

Hey fellas, I just got an MPC60 with the 3.10 software, scsi and full memory expansion.

My question, i hear a lot of people use the MPC60 with a S950, the MPC for the drums and an S950 for the loop/groove.

Is the MPC60 with full memory not able to hold a chopped up 4 bar loop (like you would do on an S950) AND some drums.

Im kinda hoping i can do both on the MPC60. I dont have my unit yet, im waiting for it to arrive.

Also another question, as i said before im new to the mpc, i thought if you sampled a 4 bar loop for the groove, the mpc had like a chop function that would chop it up into segments and put them on the pads so you can mess with it? Is that how it works?

The 60 won't hold a 4 bar loop & drums. The 60 does not have a auto chop function or zoning you have to chop everything manually.

While it's true the 60 doesn't have alot of memory - it's completly untrue that you can't create both loops and have sampled drums onboard.....That's exactly what the early pioneers of rap did that made the 60 so fameous......You can also sync to a recorder and record your loop and then go back and do the percussion or vice-versa.........

You can't have a 4 bar loop chopped with drums in the 60 there is not enough memory and of course there are ways to work around it.

26.2 seconds sounds enough to me for a 4 bar loop, although it's uneffective.

The S950 by the way does not have much more memory in addition.

I'm glad the early pioneers didn't have as much sample time as we do now. If they did, we might only be listening to old Chic loops...

20 seconds is a long time for a loop (or even 2)

Maybe not if you want to loop a whopping 4 bars. But as I said, that would be uneffective.
