Newbie with a few questions

I recently picked up an MPC2000xl but am having trouble working out the simplest functions, the manual may as well be blank.

1. How do I safe loaded programs to the 32meg internal memory?

2. How do I change the sensitivity of the drums pads?

3. How do I tell a sample to loop from start to end until the pad is pressed a second time?

1. You LOAD programs into the internal memory. You SAVE them to floppy, zip or other device

2. You cannot change the sensitivity on Mpc2000XL (other than the FULL LEVEL button).

3. You can't. Mpc2000XL wont do that. Try using NOTE OFF instead or use the sequencer to play the sample (depending on what you are trying to do).

You can adjust the overall velocity of the pads in the lower right corner of the main screen (velo%). You can set a sample to loop as long as you hold the pad by setting the loop up in the trim screen. You can then record it as a track in your sequence and mute the track when you want it to stop. If you have the sample trimmed to fit the bars correctly you can also set the parameters to mono in the program screen so that it plays to the end if you mute the track.

Yeah, I like those tracks too. What else you been using besides the roland sp808?

Thanks guys, although i'm a little dissapointed the "industry standard" of samplers can't actually loop . Surely it's the simplest of functions?

I havn't used the SP808 for years. I sample directly into a sequencer (CoolEdit) and do it all in there. I have a nice vinyl collection (mainly soundtracks, world music and avante garde) and an SH-201 synth . Glad you like the stuff.

I have another question:
I seem to keep getting an occasional and entirely random flam/roll effect when playing the pads. What the heck is that about? The guy who sold it to me said he didn't know what I was talking about but its definitely there. Any ideas?

Sometimes you can get a double beat if you hit the pads in some kinda way. If thats what you're talking about, it gets better with practice. Try and get into the habit of hitting square in the middle.

To loop a phrase you gotta record/trigger it in a sequence. Set the BPM of the sequence to match your phrase and then set the sequence to loop. It's a longer way of working but you have to remember this thing was originally designed as a drum machine so it has it's own idiosyncrasies.

As far as the flam or double triggering goes, like beatfreq said it just takes practice to learn how to hit the pads.
It's a common problem for newbies.

Not only the double hit but i think hes talking about triggering poly samples.

In the params window you can change your setting for each pad. NOTE OFF, MONO, OR POLY.

2000xl isnt that hard to learn although it seems that way at first. It actually becomes extremly easy. Good luck
