ok - so heres an example.

i'm playing via and external MIDI keyboard
this problem does not effect the pads as they are a set range.

i map one note across the whole range 0 C_-2 to 127 G_8

create a new INST program

if i map a piano note (not looped) for example
from 0 C0_-2 to 34 A#0 the notes just hang but will fade away when the sample is finished.

then from D#6 to 127 G_8 the notes also hang like midi stuck notes
but i cant shut them up unless i switch off the MPC.

anyone else having this problem?

should i send this in as a bug report?

ahhh yes, nice find.

here is the bug:

playmode NOTE ON only works for notes within the PAD RANGE (35-98)
from 0-34 and from 99-127, the playmode bugs to ONESHOT instead of being NOTE ON.

here's a write up: would you like to report it or should i?

BUG: INST pgm notes outside the range of 35-98 ignore NOTE ON parameter

1 - load a sample
2 - create new INST pgm
3 - assign sample to range: 0-127.
4 - turn pgm to NOTE ON
5 - play pad AO1 (35). NOTE: note on occurs.
6 - play note 34 using external MIDI device (keyboard, computer, etc)
7 - BUG: note on does not occur.
8 - notes outside the range of 35-98 (pad range) ignores NOTE ON parameter.

nice one - nym -feel free to report it dude.

at the moment you can only assign 64 notes in a INST program
which means using the MPC as a sampler is a bit limited.

do you think jj can extend this range
for example: if you have a monster piano you can have separate samples on each of the 128 notes.
at the moment it looks like 64 notes is the limit as it corresponds to the number of pads.

also we need 3 velocity layers for soft/medium/loud -

nah you can assign 0-127. however due to the note on bug that you discovered only 35-98 are useful. for now. i just reported it.

w/ just the pads, you can only access 35-98.
with a keyboard, you can access all the notes, 0-128

i don't know if velocity layers are coming or not. hopefully we are not going to have to rely on velocity filter EG in filter mode to simulate softer hits in the future. we'll just wait and see.

correction to what i said:
at the moment you can only assign 64 'SAMPLES' in an INST program.

damn - without layers INST is not going to replace my old k2000r

just gonna have to wait an see how this evolves.
