I just finished reading the mpc500 Tutorials, and for the most part I am satisfied, but I do have a couple complaints. First of all, if I'm paying $40 for a professional ebook, I would expect it to be edited and checked properly before it is published. There are multiple errors in the book. Some are simple grammatical or spelling errors, others refer to incorrect information. In one case, it refers to a folder that is not included in the tutorials. There are also a few sections in the book that are clearly cut and pasted from another mpc tutorial.
Now don't get me wrong, I still think it is worth its weight in gold. The average moron should easily be able to figure out what the author meant, but my point is that if I'm paying for a product, I expect a certain level of professionalism.
Here are a few minor errors:
page 88 - 001.00.000 refers to a bar that doesn't exist.
page 94 - refers to Sq 3 but should refer to Sq 4, refers to Sq 2 but should refer to Sq 1. This can make the tutorial a little confusing if you're trying to show and example but the user is analyzing the wrong sequence
page 95 - missing the track param step
page 97 - There's no tempo folder. Part of the examples of this tutorial cannot be completed
page 104 - bar refers to note, can be confusing to someone who is not so musically versed
page 110 - refer to 02.02.00 but its 02.01.00
page 113 - 1.00.00 doesn't exist
page 117 - says Delay but it should say Decay, again this can be confusing if you're trying to change the wrong parameters
page 118 - refers to A6 but suppose to be A5
page 140 - refers to program but suppose to be project
page 159 - refers tempo 1/16(3), but the file in the tutorial clearly has another TC
page 159 - refers to buttons that are not on the mpc500. This was clearly cut and pasted from another mpc tutorial
I also think that references back to the included folders should be made more clearly like "Go To Folder 027 Fitting an Instrument Loop to a Beat>Chopped>BASS13-1.WAV" instead of just stating "Find the BASS13-1.WAV in the Chopped Folder." It never refers to the parent folder. Although this should be assumed as the same number as the tutorial, it may not be as obvious, especially for nested folders.
There are more that I didn't post, but you get the idea. I'm just passing this on as constructive criticism and hope that the proper authorities here can pass this on further. Again, I highly recommend the mpc500 tutorials, but I do have higher expectations and hope these problems can be fixes asap.
