ya but that **** can sound like a reverb with low settings and no feedback. well to my uneducated but highly receptive ears it do.

The delay is ok but nothing phenomenal. It is good to have if you don't have any other outboard or DAW.

That is something I did not take time to mess with when I owned a 3k so I appreciate the examples you provided.

The beat "Thor's Stone" on my myspace profile has a girl that repeats on top of the beat, and that is the delay. It kicks in with the hi-hats, and later in the beat the delay is alone with the drums for some time. Pretty straight use of the delay tho'.

The beat ends with the delay alone!

Another little 3000 "trick" from a machine released 14 years ago:

Of course ya'll know the 3K features volume + pan automation.

Well... say you got a beat at 100bpms with say.. a bongo sound going during it.

SLOW down the beat to say.. 50bpms and record a back & forth pan automation on the bongo (going to the beat).

When you play it back at 100bpms you get that illy-dilly rotary type effect on the bongo, or whatever else you flip it on!

When i asked about the delay FX sometime ago,half of the 3k users hace no idea.Thank god,there were those 2-3 really educated MPC heads and spark a light I'm waiting for the lady to arrive and start making stuff.Nice input on the delays.Thanks

I thought I'd contribute a little technique I always use when beat making. Most will already be aware of this but whenever I see someone post a picture of their 3000 I notice that they don't. Anyways, here's the deal, when you're recording samples in to the MPC record them as high as possible without clipping regardless of the peaks of the song you're sampling. This way you'll have samples and sounds that are super crispy and loud and you can achieve a much nicer mix down. Whenever I see an MPC 3000 with the volume knob turned to the max I become aware of the fact that not everybody does this.

And when the volume control is turned all the way to the max it makes very much white noise. With my setup the levels are often at the max vol when the knob is straight up.

When sampling hi-hats from vinyl you get a lot of hum and it's peaking long before it actually have to. If you roll off the low freq's (I do it with my MFC42) you can sample them extremely loud without peaking, and they get suuuuuper clean. I sometimes have to mix them like vol 5 when my kicks is at 100

I gotta say I'm jealous of the sound you achieve on your drums. They're always nice, loud and crispy.

If it's me you are asking I can tell you that I record my beats straight from my MP3000 to my Mac via the built in Mac input. I use garageband or audacity to record. Sometimes I run the MPC through my TLAudio Fat Man tube compressor. Thats all. Raw from the MP or 1200.

deck-do you still use garageband? how is it to you?worth learning?

Word. Regarding my beats, I record them on my Tascam DP02CF and then use Audacity to cut the start/ends fade in/out and stuff like that.

I still use garageband for mixing (mixing vocals and cuts on top of beats). It's very simple and easy, but I do simple stuff with it, so it works for my needs these days. I don't like to spend to much time on that kind of stuff, so I get it done quick in there too. And since I'm not passing out my stuff on major labels the sound quality is good enough.
