Was I Ripped Part 2? XL

The guy i bought the XL from said this: "that one just needed the new OS, the Japanese OS was loaded by mistake" and he says that could be why the screen is like that (mad lines) but i inserted a floppy with the latest OS, and nothing happenend, i pressed load, and nothing. Another thing, i don't think it's in Japanese. When i turn it on, through the lines i can see it says: "Akai MPC2000XL: Please Insert ....." i'm pretty sure. Does anyone have any idea whats up with this. Thanks a lot in advance.

I think it's not japanese OS but the screen is bad. When mpc was used a lot, after some time the screen eventually starts to have some dead lines or dots. I think the dude didin't tell you the truth.
Where did you get it ? If ebay - give us the name of guy, to warn the rest.

Yeah he knows it's fuked up the lines have nothing to do with the OS that's jsut BS right there!

i loaded the floppy the right way just now, and at least now it goes to the main menu. but are you supposed to save the OS to the flash or something, cuz when i turned it off, and then back on, i had to reboot.

edit: the "5" button is jammed up too, and that's the trim feature so i'd need that. I def think i'll return this now. Thank you everyone for the fast replies, i appreciate it.

You normally don't have to reboot the OS when you power on the 2kxl. A few days ago one of board users had the similar problem, he had to use the floppy every time. I can't remember the topic name though.

I heard that for mpc 2000 it's always required, but not the 2kxl. My xl used to start up flawlessly when I had a floppy drive at the beginning, no reboot.

My boys XL always needs a floppy to start up just like the Classic that's weird.

i think you have to save the OS to flash memory... once he does that, he wont have to boot up from the disk..

I started the previous thread on this subject. No response tho.....

I tried installing a laptop hd in my xl. Using the red line on the floppy cable for reference, I inserted the IDE connector to the board. When I powered up the MP, the screen was just white and all the led's lit up. I powered down and reversed the cable and the screen read "INSERT MPC2000XL DISK" .(It has also since read "INSERT MPC2KXL ROM DISK 1.01") I cant find a 1.01 OS or anything online similar and I have to load an OS from floppy when I power up. (I use either 1.14 OR 1.20, both work) Is this reversible???

Just go shift+load, press the SAVE option, go to the last option on the right and there you will find the option to save the OS on flash. If it doesn't save it so that next time you reboot it will load directly, then you also have a **** up Flash ROM.

PS I didn't know there was a Japanese version of the OS. Are you sure you're not been clowned over this?

I have a stock MPC (other than 32 MB memory). The stock 2KXL has no flash rom to load the OS to........
