a little midi help please

Hey, someone help please.
I am recording midi from my MPC 2000xl to protools le 001. I got pro tools to record the track, but it seams to be recording all the wrong notes. When I play back from protools to the mpc a tom or snare is triggered instead of the cymbal ect.. I checked all the different user groups and my manuals; I spent a full day messing with it, please a little help.

save your song as a midi file on the mpc2000xl load the song from the disk into protools and you have your midi in protools.
