autoload question

Now that I have 128MB in my MPC 1000, I'd like to setup an Autoload folder to load the palette of samples I've been manually loading and purging because I didn't have enough memory to keep it loaded all the time. My question is, do the samples have to reside in the same folder as the program? Currently, I have several folders labeled after each type of sound (kicks, snares, hats, etc..) What's the easiest way to autoload these samples without having to dump them into one folder?

I beleive that you can have one layer of subfolders in the Autoload folder so just put each set of samples and the program in seperate subfolders within the Autoload folder and you should be good.

I'm afraid you're right - I wish it could do that too, but so far we can only get one level down from root, and /Autoload is one level.

hence why i can never use "save entire memory"... seems pretty dumb in a way - doesn't seem too outrageous to ask the MPC to recognise all levels of a directory (eg: Sub, sub-sub, sub-sub-sub)

Look for the "Workflow Strategies" thread a few pages down, a few of us talk about this kind of thing in there. I'll use "Save All Memory" while working on a single project, then extract and separately save any Programs I want to keep for future use.

Is there a limit to the number of files one can have in a folder? I'm still considering making programs for each type of hit (kick, snare, hat, etc..) and autoloading them. Then, when I start a song, I select the appropriate program for each track and press all the pads until I find one that sounds good for that song. This is different than what I was doing before which was loading in one folder of samples at a time, auditioning them in the program window and assigning each hit to a pad in a new program. I'm getting sick of discussing this...time to go make some music
