You could probably do half up front, then half later. However, if i as giving my mpc to anybody, id have to trust them. So really you wouldnt need to charge anything up front, and if they dont pay, dont give them thier mpc back. Besure to right a reciept, that obligates them to pay and you to do your job. I would probably create a sheet of "rules" or "procedures" so that when you do thier mpc, that they dont expect to see a van gough paint job, and get a ghetto as paint job ya know? peoples expectations can **** things up, so your gonna need some examples.
Maybe go and talk to the tshirt guys in the mall that do custom tshirts, because thing is, with custom tshirts, if they **** up, its only a tshirt. But with the mpc, its alot more-so
You will definately need example of things you can do, sort of like the tshirt shops, you can actually see pictures of what you may want, that way, you will be consistant, and the customers wont be surpised, but pleased. Ya know? like forat.com : i can think of a million ideas for my own mpc, but ya know what i would most likely do? look at one of the pictures on forat.com and pic one, then alter it to what i want exactly, ya know? a base for an idea to create mine. That way its half your idea nad half the customers, so the end result should be good.
My brother has done custom painting for people(pictures) well, people go to him because they like "his style", well with custom work, you have to be able to do "your style" and sell it, and at the same time you have to do "thier style" ya know? so let them see your style.
just some idea though. The best advice if you are serious though, is to write everything down on paper as like a small little plan. Start out small, but think big.
Ive also seen mpc covers on ebay before, just the covers for like 100 bucks or something, research that! ya know, get a few covers, then customize those to order, then just switch the covers with the customers!!! that way they can see if they like it before you switch it!!!!!!!!!! im sure you may even be able to contact akai for that, or even forat.com
