when i took of the cover to paint mines i just pulled the pads off. They come right off. Then i washed em under water and let em fully dry

dip a Q tip in alcohol and let it dry for a second so it's barely damp, scrub teh side edges of the pads... stop eating fried chicken while you make beats it makes all this crud appear! Use a slightly damp cloth to wipe the chassis clean, do NOT use windex or other harsh cleaners, it damages the paint job.

Those pads are like dust and hair magnets. I take one of those sticky roller lint remover things and roll it over top of the pads when they get real nasty. They're like 99 cents at wal-mart.
