Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By johnjay Mon Jul 31, 2006 6:50 am
hey guys.....i'm new here, so bare with me. I need some help. I currently am using Protools 6.4 with digi 001 interface. I have a midi keyboard controller and 3 sound modules(roland XV-5050, proteus 2000, and Korg Triton. I am able to run 2 of the sound modules through my MPC 2000XL through A&B with no problem. My problem is, how do I hook up the 3rd sound module? I thought I could do a "midi through" with one of the sound modules but that did not work. Can Anyone point me to the right direction?? Thanks in Advance....

Did you check out pg 11 in the 2kxl manual? It shows a nice diagram of a midi through setup.

basically, I am trying to hook up 3 modules to the MPC 2000XL but it seems as if i can only hook up 2 modules to it. I tried doing midi "out" to midi "through" with one the modules but that did not work even after shutting off sounds 9-16 on my proteus, so that my roland can use those slots. So the question is, can anybody tell me how to hook up 3 sound modules to my MPC 2000xl????

Yeah, I looked at it but it only shows how to setup 1 module through the MPC.

no midi out to midi thru but:

mpc midi out ----> module 1 midi in
module 1 midi thru -----> module 2 midi in

and so on, i have 4 sound modules midied to my midi out A of my 2kXL,in cascade and they always worked fine,with unperceiveable latency, i use em live with no flaws.
thats it.

make sure your gear is set up to let pass midi data thru (no midi filters) and that your mpc is sending midi data on the correct channels, and the gear is setup to receive that data on that specific channel.

why do you have a protools setup with modules and ish... if u don't even know how to set it up? I'm not dissing but damn....

listen, If you just read before you comment, you would know that i am able to connect 2 modules with Protools and my MPC with no problem. I wanted to add another module to my setup so that i can have more sounds to play with and this is where I am runing into trouble.....

don't mind me... i was beeing an *** again... :lol:

if u still need help:

can u set midichannels on ur modules? Ifso, for example:

module 1 = 1 to 8, on mpc midi 1a to 8a.

module 2 = 9 to 16, on mpc 9a to 16a

module 3 = 1-16, on mpc 1b to 16b

when u get another module, just do the same and so on...
u can do it 16 times on each midi out on the mpc.

(U will need to set up the proper channels on the modules to ofcourse)

ps. also the above will be neccesary (the midi trhu thing)

Don't know if this will help but I have 3 different sound modules running through ONE midi in and out...all being controlled by a midi controller....

MPC=MPC
MR=Motif Rack
KS=Novation K Station
PCR=Edirol PCR midi controller
CZ= Casio CZ3000

MPC "out" ---->to MR "in"
MR "thru" -----> K S "in"
K S "out" -----> PCR "in"
KS "thru" -----> CZ "in"
PCR "out" ----> MPC "in"

I haven't changed any midi settings in any machine....What I did do however, since everything runs through the Motif, is turn down the volume on channels 16 and 1-4...16 is for the K Station, 1-4 for the Casio...
