U have different type of ways to get ur bass. I just sample a clean bass note, and make a programm out of it. Assign the notes right and play the bass with a midi keyboard.
U can also chop up basslines just like normal samples, filter it and play the chops.
It takes some filtering, eq and some compression to get the right effect if u take sampled bass.
Or you can use synths or other soundmodules, but I don't have any experience with that. Even better is letting a friend come over who can play bass.

2. Learn how to play said bass guitar.

here's some game for free

synths:
fat westcoast style synth bass: studio electronics se-1

vst:
look for a moog emulator

samples:
look for records w/ these bassists: james jamerson, bootsy collins, paul jackson
low end theory your samples (filter out the treble and isolate the low end), chop one note as a pluck, another as a longer sustained note, play from pads or even better, a MIDI keyboard w/ pitch & modulation wheels

live:
record low frequencies, assign to your sampler, and synthesize/control from a synth
best overall option: live bass, also be sure to experiment w/ pedals like cry baby wah, etc.
