mpc 1000 and keyboards

which keyboard is good and cheap to use with the mpc 1000, because I want to play my own melodies on my beats.
I have a midi keyboard but I guess I can't play any sounds with it on the mpc 1000 or can I?

You could get a real synth at that and then use its keyboard to control the MPC1000. Then control the synth with the MPC1000's sequencer. I use a Kawai K5000S in both ways.

I'm doing melodic programming on my MPC1000, and have a few downloadable programs on my site, but be warned that the MPC1000 is optimized for drums, it's missing some convenient features you find on a full sampler. Like velocity and key crossfades, auto-assign of samples, true "release" support, etc. But it works as a basic sampler with a keyboard, it's fun and sounds good too.

I use a Kurzweil K2000VP. I got it for 600$ used. It really has alot of great features. So, check it out:
