"Two player Mode"

How do I setup for two live players simultaneous? Meaning one person playing synth module through midi input 1. And I play drums on pads at the same time. while maintaining the option of recording each performance into sequence on the fly.

Probably just have the Audio Out from the synth module going into the record in on the mpc and having input thru activated.

Or am I not really understanding what you mean?

I am talking live simultaneous performance. If I setup a track with midi out to my module and play on the keys everything is fine. But I want to be able to select another track on the mpc with a drum kit loaded and play drums with the pads while my friend plays keys on the previous track. Does this make more sense?

I would be really surprised if there is not a way to set this up. Without a midi merge box.

Because you need one track set to the MIDI channel, and one to your drum program, you won't be able to record both tracks at the same time I'm afraid.

You can however play both at the same time (I believe - haven't tried it) by playing your drum program as usual, and setting the MIDI Soft Thru setting so the signals from the keyboard are passed through to the module - even when the current track is a Drum track. P. 53 in the manual.

I don't see how a MIDI merge box could help at all.

to a daisy chain mpc to synth.
track 1 on mp will be for midi
track 2 will be whatever you want, so the drums..

Stilo thanks for the help! I don't necessarily need to record both performances at the same time, so i am okay there. I want my keys guy to be able to play a piano part live for the intro of a song, then pick up his guitar and unmute the sequenced piano part. While i play drums or whatever on the pads. What about setting the MIDI thru to Omni? -- MIDI/sync screen (mode > pad 9). This is set to 'As track' by default, which means that it will output the MIDI channel displayed in whatever track you have selected.

Perhaps Omni A (If your keyboard is connected to out A) will let you byass the track selection thru-put. Sorry, but I haven't come that far with my 2.5k to experiment with this, just speculating. I'll try it as soon as I get a chance - I find this oddity limiting myself, but having used the 2k classic (no omni option) for a long time have got me used to selecting tracks quickly when working live. - But this still won't let two players do their thing simultaneously.

I am using midi keyboard to mpc to module. Maybe this this little nugget of info would help. I have a 2x2 midi interface in my fw-1082. I have been using this for a workaround; setup two midi tracks in cubase, one track for midi keys in and then out to module, and track two for when i am ready to sequence keys to mpc, in which case i route keys through my interface to the mpc then from the mpc back to the interface and then on to the module. Kind of a wierd loop for the midi routing but it works fine. Except I want to do this without a computer for live use. Not necessarily on stage live, but in the studio live. Another piece of gear for this function would be fine, just not a computer. Thanks for the help so far!!!

So did you actually try out what I suggested? Did it work? Where's the problem still?
