That is crazy talk! Hardware! Obsolete!?! NEVER! I suppose you believe guitar modeling software will replace the guitar also? No need for good singers either because of melodyne? Microphone manufacturers out of business because there are no more instruments to record?

yea for real because you will need this:
hardware

to install this
software

haha but seriously thats never ever gonna happen in my life time thankfully!

Good point 1875.

Jealous of dudes who spend all day staring at a computer screen with a mouse in one hand? I doubt it! I would like to see you find a keyboardist who prefers qwerty!

[quote="beach_break"
as a multitrack recorder, software is great. working with reel-to-reel was hell. tape still sounds better than digital. but it's too hard to use. so, im taking the lazy path for recording.[/quote]

This is my position also. Although I still like my interface to be covered in knobs and faders!!

The mouse and qwerty keyboard complaint is weak. I guess you haven't heard of midi mapping? or haven't cared to look...

keyboard players prefer your standard black&white keys. Midi keyboards (weighted ones included) came out a few years ago.

What were you saying? ???

Ahh yes... the pros and cons... pro versus free downloads... Eventually we won't need women anymore either, because in the future porn will be so much better than the real thing! I agree that the methods are not anywhere as important as the outcome... but... once again I will go back to the pro keyboard player, find one who does not prefer a real set of keys.

that is true about "pro keyboard players" they do perfer a steinway, yamaha, etc but what does that have to do with hardware or software?

9 times out of 10 they are recording their performance in to a pro-tool gig which is hardware and software.

so, i am confused on what you are actually saying.

another point not only keyboard players write music or make beats. plus, most beat makers cant play the keys. so again, what is your point.

it comes down to preference and if you are following the trends software is becoming more popular. look at any music mag. from 15 years ago and all it was is hardware and 15 year later 70% is software. again, not sure what you are talking about.

if you perfer hardware that is cool but "most" song writers, beat makers, etc are "now" using software.

fact! :D

id have to agree with most of that, i probably couldnt survive if i had to make my tracks in the box, like i said before i love to visualize my tracks and seeing them up on screen is wonderful and a very very nice convenience. but as far as actually using soft synths, efx etc. for some reason i just have to be able to hold them and turn the knobs with my hands.

its def evident that sometime in the future music will more than likely be totally reliant on software and in no way shape or form do i deny the advantages that software can have on the industry it just isnt for me.

not sure what you are saying about "turn the knobs with my hands" because have you ever seen novation sl series controller or kore 2 how about mpk49 and there are a 1000 other controllers out there.

that argument is the same as the mouse and keyboard argument it does not carry water.

if you perfer hardware that is "cool" but you can not speak on software if your software experence is limited.

there is no attitude. just putting things in thier proper prospective. that tis all.

my attitude is not in my ass, just trying to educate someone who is un-educated in the hardware -vs- software argument.

did you know calling names is like running out of facts at a debate?

think about it. :D

p.s. you have a nice day too. ok? :D

I dont see a reason to not use semi-hybrid setup. Hardware and software together. That's what I was doing when I had 2500. Synced live with mpc, synth attatched to live. Since I'm not a keyboard player I was recording and editing played keys in Live, rather than replaying them 1000 times.

Live and battery or guru with mpd32 would make a dope software setup too IMO.
