new to MPC, help me please..

hey, i have been playing drumms for 12 years, i have all the instruments to start a live band. Is it possible to sample live instruments (guitar, bass, drum set) ? but thats down the line, right now how can i get the CD that came with the XL to load the files into my akai? Do i need to spend the 100 on an external CD rom? or can i go out an but an ext-Zip Drive and somehow use that to load sounds. Also ive been using Hip Hop Ejay 4 to make beats prior to buying my MPC. so i dont know shit about midi and stuff like that.

Anyway.. You can sample anything into it, it's a sampler.

I think you can load the sounds into your computer, and then save them into a zip disk which you can use to load the sounds to the MPC. I'm not sure tho.. Try using the search, as it has propably been discussed here before.

And midi has been also discussed here a lot, so before you have a question about hooking something up try the search. It has most likely been answered a bazillion times already....


And the most important thing - Read the manual! That's why there is one!

If your mpc did not come with a internal zipdrive then my first buy would be a n external zipdrive for the MPC (make sure it's a SCSI one) and a zip drive for your computer. That way you can transfer sounds between the computer and the MPC. An external cdrom drive for the mpc is a nice thing to have but not as important as a zip drive (in the long run you will hate saveing your beats on multiple floppies).

How can i convert regular wavs that i mad with my sound recorder to a 16bit wav file that the akai will pick up? Also i just bought a Carol Robelli Midi Digital piano yesterday for 160 . its a little different but id recommend it, the sounds are awsome.

go midi out of the mpc to midi in of your keyboard.
midi out of your keyboard, to the midi in on the mpc.
then on the mpc, instead of drum1, scroll to midi and
choose a channel/device

the sounds on that cd arent very good. i woulndt go through the hassle of trying to put them on floppy or whatever. but if you do keep in mind that you'll need to rename the filenames so that they're 8 charachters or less. & doing that is going to make it so the .pgm's dont work.
