I don't know how to hook up my Zip drive to my XL *PICS*

Ok so about a month ago I finanly bought a mpc I've been playing with it and trying to get to know it. Well I finaly bought a SCSI zip drive to go with it and I bought it from SCSIforSamplers.com which is a great site. I also bought a DB25 Male to SCSI-2 50-pin Male SCSI Cable from the site to go along with the zip drive. After I bought it he emailed me & told me that I would also need to buy a DB25 gender changer and that I could go to Radio Shack and get one from there so I could make everything work.
Well I went there, bought it, went home & tried to hook everything up but something was wrong. I tried different ways to hook it up but it was working out right.

I just need you to tell me if there's something else I should buy that i'm missing or if i'm just plain hooking it up wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated





(1)the small plug on the very left is the gender changer
(2)the white plug next to it is the DB25 Male to SCSI-2 50-pin Male SCSI Cable that I bought from the site, the 50-pin is already connected to the mpc
(3)The blue one on top of the zip drive is the one that came with the zip drive.

make sure you set the scsi device id on the mpc to the id on the zip drive it self.

Are you sure that's a scsi zip drive ? Mine has 2 micro switches at the back one to set the scsi Id (5,6 )and another one to set the termination. Make sure that your zip drive hat termination turned on when you connect it to your mpc. Turn on zip b4 mpc. Go into Load screen and select eiter scsi-id 5 ot 6 (scsi zips only respond to one of these id's)

This isn't a scsi zip, this one is for for the parallel port.

I bought the Zip drive from scsiforsamplers.com and they said it was a scsi zip drive & that it works with the mpc2kxl. Here's a link to the zip drive I bought: http://web.tampabay.rr.com/dwilson3/all ... html#ZIP-P

I had the same drive and I couldn't get it workin'... but since it has a scsi switch it should be a scsi drive, so keep tryin'!

It just seems to me everytime I try to hook it all up, it seems like a plug is missing. Im not sure where the hell the gender changer is supposed is supposed to go. I've tried different ways to hook it all up and it's just not right.

That looks like a SCSI to me, did you connect it to the right port? There's one to go to the mpc and another if you want to daisy chain it to another scsi device... on mine I have the one on the left hand side going to my mpc, mine is a scsi zip 250... and the one on the right goes to my scsi hard drive if that helps you.

No termination switch it seems....

yes its a scsi drive its a zip 100 plus thats why it only has one switch and no termanation switch its sopussed to know when to terminate by itself also it can be used with a serial or scsi also if you hold the botton down it will turn off so u dont have to unplugg it everytime u whant to turn it off like the rest of the drives do

since its serial or scsi if u are looking at it from the back use the terminal on the right not the left to go to your mpc

also be carefull hooking it up to your mpc make sure your mpc is off because u can blow your scsi fuse if u do it while its on

That dont look like SCSI to me....If your saying it is, then u got the wrong connectors on it. U need "mini" pin connectors

I have that same zip drive. Since it seems you already have the cable hooked up to the mpc , now just connect the other side of the cable to the zip drive, no gender changing needed. I can't remember which of those two is the right socket for it tho.. I'll look it up once I get home and if you haven't gotten it to work by monday then I'll help you out!

Thanks for the help but it still isnt working for me. Everytime I go to the load/save screen it still says "No SCSI device detected." I know i'm powering it up in the correct order it supposed to be & my scsi id is set at 5.
I'm going crazy here, anymore help will be GREATLY appreciated.

Some of the older zip drives dont work with the MPC, thats likely your problem. Just get a newer drive.

Well I just bought this from scsiforsamplers.com & it says on the site that this drive works the Mpc2kxl, so I would think that this works with it.
