i'll stop preachin now. what programs do you use to get mp3s? :)

Soulseek, Gnutella, Torrents . . .

I used Soulseek a long time ago. It has great stuff on there. I shy away from using it nowadays cause I don't have the time to build E-relationships and share and trade. All that BS is too much and too time consuming. You have to develop those relationships or else people won't allow you to DL from them. I wish it was anonymous and all free flowing.

sampling Mp3's is sooooo weak for me...

first, i cant sit down on a computer all day anymore,
hence thats why i havnt posted here in months.

second, mp3's are not the same to me as vinyl,
since i use alot of old samplers the sample time is slim,
so i need to speed the record up to fit in the break or sample,
i have tried with MP3's, doesnt do it justice.

third, i like having the records,
the album cover art, booklets, the vinyl, the smell,
thats why i love music, its the vinyl..

fourth, i love being out on the streets,
i never paid more than 3 dollors for a record
at a record shop or at thrift shops.
I Stick to the $1 bins, thats my secret,
most record stores have ALOT of doubles
of soul records that are in crappy, but useable condition,
for $1-5 instead of $30. thats my technique.

I only pay good money for vinyl, $10+ at record shows.

I admit i sample mp3's but at the same time i dig so i use both. Some mp3s sound good some sound like ish.Dont base your workflow with just mp3s you still have to dig but if thats all u have have then eff it.If anything put some vinyl/analog type effects on your sampled mp3s in your daw just to make it sound like it was on vinyl.

**** that i wanna be 1st in line or not be fighting over shyt. Ill dig for something else.

So you avoid downloading MP3s because you don't want the same **** everyone else has, but then go into record stores looking for the same soul records every other douche would look for?

Did you read any of my post? I don't look for soul. AGGH why does everyone automatically think beatmakers look for soul?
Yeah soul is great, but theres much more music in the world other than f*cking soul. Theres loads of sections in record stores people just don't explore (rock, jazz, metal, punk, folk, etc) because it doesn't have the typical afros and black dudes on the cover.

Man it's like beatmakers all listen to the same f*cking shit these days.

DL just sucks in my opinion. My mp3s stay on the computer because i'm a dinosaur like that.

DL is lame in my opinion because:

*it's not fun. Even when i can play Super Mario while files finish DL.

*Theres no sense of achievement. Anyone can find a f*cking web page and type a name into a search engine.

*You don't get out much. You're stuck in your room. When you go out you can get excerise.

*You don't see people. The only people you meet are retarded nerds on the internet using soulstrut emoticons.

*You can't get dusty? WTF!? DIGGING WITHOUT GETTING DUSTY!?

*You only get what people are willing to put up for DL.

*E-RELATIONSHIPS!? I don't have time for that shyt! :o I can't be arsed with shyt like Facebook as it is! It's too time consuming. I wanna get out and meet people in the flesh. I could be developing a relationship with real people instead!

*Vinyl can have a story e.g. like when i first got into digging (when i was young) i had an amazing time in Nottingham and after went digging round there and got a Baby Huey album. Didn't know who the guy was at first and just got it because it looked like a cool album. When i got home that album was amazing and i found a sample Ghostface used (forgot track). Thats what got me into digging bad lol.
With Downloading there isn't no experiences other than i found this guys blog and DL that album from rapidshare.

*VINYL IS JUST BETTER. THE SMELL, THE FEEL, THE CRACKLES, THE SOUND, THE ARTWORK, THE NOTES, ETC.

I wasn't sure if you meant downloading MP3's or what you quoted.

Yeah, I don't spend really anytime networking on-line. Checking the forums is as close as I get most of the time. It's been about 2 years since I used soulseek.

As far as sampling goes...I live in an area where dope vinyl is extremely rare. I still managed to put together a nice little collection though...I'll sample anything as long as it catches my ear. I don't care about format.

agreed with everything ESPECIALLY that^

also, wheres the sense of value with 'e-digging'
if you got a hard drive full of mp3s, are you really gonna miss them when they gone?
coz i sure as hell would miss my records..shit even thinkin about that gets me panicky lol

i'm not hating coz i have sampled the odd mp3, but it ain't nothing on the real thing, that mp3 ur sampling will have always come from vinyl in the first place

the main problem I can see with sampling mp3s is that you don't know where they originally came from and if the person who recorded it knew what they were doing. e.g. played through a crappy mixer, crappy needle, crappy soundcard, clipping etc.

you honestly think that if the sampling pioneers had to choose between high priced records and free mp3s on the internet they would choose the records? digging in the crates doesnt exist the same way it used to because a lot of the good records have been found and the prices have gone up since everyone and their mother wants to be the next Kanye West.
