Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Also look at the other side of the coin.

If you notice they do have a negative hit for selling an item that didn't match it's description, so it could be the same thing again.
I would also consider asking for a refund because the auction specifically stated for
Akai MPC 2000XL Internal Compact Flash Card Reader NEW
.
If it doesn't work then that makes that an incorrect auction.

BEWARE of sellers who use Private auctions of use the Private function in their feedback or bidder list.

mmm, what are the specs of this reader? It is not listed on the website.

The one I have is recognized even without a card inserted. Also hot swappable, so no problem inserting and ejecting cards while the mpc is on.

But I guess it is not available anymore.

without going that deep into it is why I asked earlier could he connect it to a computer ide, if it did work on computer, that could it meant that it neaded drivers, which will not work on mpc.

But he never tried that I bet, trying to skimp on troubleshooting, lol.

Not to beat a dead horse, I guess you don't wanna try it ,but why not attempt to reverse the cable? If someone who has installed something successfully has informed you to do so why not give it a try? I always install floppy drive cables backward and it "looks" right, but they actually install on the opposite side of the drive, next to the power connector. Also, with the notch being in the cable slot it does appear to be an IDE connection and the drive in the store link is not the same as the one pictured in the forum? Hope it works out for you though?

That drive just might need drivers in order to work, if that's the case it will NEVER work with the mpc.

Ok guys
Big thanks to you all especially Lampdog.
You had persistence above and beyond the call of duty !

I am not 100% sure what the crucial factor was that made this work.
I know i sat with it again this morning and re read everyones comments then spent 30 mins connecting, re connecting and trying different scenarios ((again))

Ultimately the red stripe was on the right side, everything was pushed in tight and the jumper was indeed placed in the 2/3 position.

I'm not sure if it was important to have the IDI Ribbon in a particular direction though eventually one of the ways worked and i was F*cK**g happy to say the least !!

once again , thanks and i'm now looking for another problem to batter your heads with.

I feel my machine is the dogs bollocks now. I got the outs and effect board and the cherry on the top is the card reader.

I'm loving the speed it reads the files too and of course, NO NOISE !!

Keep on Keepin on !

SOOO glad to see another 2kxl mcd playa playa in the hizouse.

Now you'll NEVER go backwards to sloppies and dripz (floppies and zipz).

IMO I think it was the jumper and the ribbon cable red stripe.

Just mail my drink to me...lol..

So the guy is in england right? Are all MPC 2000XL powered the same? Like, will an MPC designed for american electrical outlets accept the same card readers? I'm having a hard time finding card readers, but I can see his worked fine and dandy, so I may get one of them.

We have some very nice new SCSI card readers that are perfect for installation into most MPC sampler models and we ship worldwide.

I agree that getting one of the ATAPI (not IDE) drives is probably the best option for an MPC2000XL but if that isn't possible, we have the SCSI models in stock. The reason I'm not big on the IDE card reader models is that they don't allow the hotswapping of cards - you have to have a card in the drive when you crank up the MPC and you cannot remove it without powering down. To me, that kind of takes the best feature away from having a card reader drive. What if you want to keep each project on a different card or what if you run out of space?

I know all of this can be overcome with good planning but hey, we are musicians here. Personally I'd try to get an ATAPI model like the kind VST sells or one of the SCSI models that we sell, so hotswapping is available.

My ide cardreader is hot swappable and my mpc can power up perfectly without a card inserted. So you just have to use the right IDE cardreader.

I'm having the same problem Mosdef had!! :(

I bought a kit from mpc stuff and as far as I can tell all the cables are in correctly... in fact they will only go in one way. The jumper is set right also, plus I updated the OS to 1.2. My old OS was something like 1.07 so it was wayyyyy out of date!

Hmmmm... not sure what to do now... :?

Anyone who just changed from external scsi zip to ide cardreader? I did that years ago, but was just wondering which is faster. My old zip is broken, so cannot check it.
Not that I ever want to switch back, but just wondering.

And are all using SND files already? That really loads must faster then WAV.

In theory SCSI should be faster then IDE, but card readers are faster then zip.

Has anyone tried the JAZ drives? I dont know anyone who has had that for even a computer. ( I know it would be a downgrade from CF, but out of curiosity.)
