SPDIF out

Yeah they said they had it on 48 that's not right..

Isn't there often a clock source setting as well?

I know. Took my 2kxl and my Saffire card to a friends last night as I found out he had SPDIF on his graphics card coz he's a big gamer.

Anyway, the Saffire is fine, the MPC SPDIF is fine, but neither 8 out card was sending SPDIF out. I'm assuming now that the SPDIF on the 8 out cards is probably OK (to have 2 different cards with broken SPDIF seems unlikely) so maybe something on the main board?

No way to check that though......

Sorry to interject with this possibly clueless response again but -- does the Saffire have a setting somewhere to chose S/PDIF clock source?

The reason I keep bringing this up is because I thought I saw a few posts on here in the past with people having similar problems until they found this setting and changed it to external so the card was no longer trying to interpret an external digital signal with it's own internal clock. I don't remember which sound cards were involved, though.

Perhaps my memory is totally off on this one.....

Nothing I can find - you can change the sample rate but that's it. When I spoke to Focusrite they said it was just plug and play and I didn't have to change anything last night when I sent SPDIF out from my mates PC to the card. Worked perfectly straight off.

There is an 'Ext' button on the software control but when I hit it it says there is no external SPDIF Source

That sounds as if the mpc itself is not putting out a digital source.

Yep. but as I've used 2 different 8 out boards I'm assuming it must be something on the main board. It doesn't seem likely that I've got 2 broken 8 outs boards, especially as they both accept SPDIF in.

I know this is a long shot but disconnect the spdif out from the Saphire LE that is connected to the MPC spdif in and only have the SPDIF out from the MP going into the soundcard. I think I had a simmilar problem few weeks ago if I had both things connected, otherwise both digital i/o's work ok.

I have never been able to record my SPDIF out into a DAW, But if I plug the SPDIF into some Digital speakers it works. So maybe it's there for Monitoring only??

its probably down to the software and soundcard settings, if the speakers can pick up the signal im sure a computer can record it.
