A couple of really easy beginner-questions about my MPC!

Some months ago I bought an MPC1000, but I haven't learned how to use it yet... guess it's just to easy to stick with FL Studio! LOL!

So I have some questions. They've probably been answered a 1000 times before, but I couldn't find them here on the forum (I prolly could if I went many pages back... but I didn't )

First off, I'm using the standard Akai OS on an MPC1000.

1. When I've loaded my sample in the MPC, and assigned the chops to my pads, how do I change its tone??? I often use slow samples, so I wanna speed it up!!

2. How do I make it so that the sample plays its full length when I press a pad??

MPC's the way to go.

Before you do anything I'd download the JJ OS 3.08. Its free and makes things much easier like trim and what not.

After loading the new OS there are a couple of places you can go to speed up or slow down etc.

First is shift and pad 7 ,which is program. Tune is changes the speed and pitch. the octaves go by 12's . so plus 12 is octave up ,24 is 2 and so on.

With the JJos there a feature called global edit where you can change a single sample or by pressing whole you can controll all the samples in that program.

To make a sample play only when you hold down the pad go to program, Move the cursur over the sample you've choosen and press window. This will bring up the oneshot or note on screen . scroll to the right to selet note on.
you can also use the global edit to turn all sample to note on .

Okay I tried what you said - and it actually worked! Thanx! Now, of course, I have a bunch of new questions... but I'll start with this:

How do I make the sounds cut off each other?? Like when I first press pad 1 and then quickly press pad 2, how do I make it so that pad 2 cuts off pad 1's sound???

It seems you know you're way around a mpc. I gotta quick question if you could help.
I am in the market to buy a used mpc and they are all similarly priced in my town and I was wondering which one I should get. I can get a 500 for $400, a 1000 for $600 or a 2000xl for $550. All of these are in good condition, original owners etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks a lot to anyone who replies.

to make it so they cut each other off go to program and then hit the f button under parameters . up in the right corner it says poly scroll to the right to make it mono.
that will make the whole program mono.

in that same screen you can move the cusur down to voice over lap select mono then go down to the mute groups , you can select 32 different groups .

lets say you have drums on bank A and Bass on bank B. Put all the samples on bank A ti group 1 and bank B to group 2. this way the drums will only stop the drums and the bass will stop the bass.

I hope thats not confusing.

I wouldn't go for the 500 just because its like a Ti 82 calculator in the sense that you have to hit this button then onther button just to get to some of the options. not a very straight forward machine.

with that said that leaves the 1000 and the 2000.

I've done work alot of work on bolth but have become partial to the 1000. Plus I love the JJ OS.
if the 2000 has the fx and out already built in than I'd go for that. Simply beacuse the 1000's have a problem with the pad senors. cheap glue job to say the least.

Thanx alot again! That helped! But now I have a new question

It seems that my different pads are assigned wrongly... For instance pad 1 triggers sample 3, and pad 2 triggers sample 6... where pad 1 should, of course, trigger sample 1, and pad 2 should trigger sample 2!

How do I fix that????

the fx as in effects processor and the programable 8 outs. That make track out your songs butter.

You can only use 2 effects at a time with the 1000. 2000 has 4


DEFF GO FOR THE 2000

to fix pad placement go to program. hit pad 1 then highlight the sample with the cursur.

You can scroll from left to right to find the sample you want. hit the next pad and repeat.

the mpc manuel is translated from japaneese to english, not user friendly.
