I also use the mpc1K for digitalizing records coz i hardly use a computer for music purposes. It's not because the unit isn't designed to that you shouldn't do that.

Besides, if you resample your beats with the main out you need the memory expansion.

If you have the JJ OS 2, you get ADSR envelopes for pitch, filter, and sample playback speed.

Sample a single cycle of a waveform on your computer (i.e. for middle A that is only about 2.27 milliseconds of sound), loop it, then set your ADSR for amp and filter, even pitch, and you got yourself a pretty decent synthesizer. In fact, the MPC 1000 assuming it has JJ OS 2, is as powerful as many stand-alone synthesizers costing much much more.

Since single cycle waveforms are so tiny, it isn't out of the question to build an entire song in several hundred kilobytes, let alone 16 megabytes. You could literally fit hundreds of songs in a non-upgraded, if you use the MPC 1000 as a synthesizer.
